NINE KILOMETRES OF GOLDEN SAND...

This renowned beach has a very special sand, made of Dolomitic quartz rock, ferrous minerals and micaceous elements that increase the action of the sun to get a faster and deeper tan. In the past it was called Clodia Minor (Chioggia minor) and was much smaller than now. Indeed, it was populated only the area that is nowadays called “Marina Vècia”, an area of vegetable gardens and traditional dwellings well-known in those days for their quality and beauty. It was destroyed during the “War of Chioggia” and remained only a cultivation area for over two centuries. The remains of the ancient “Murazzi”, erected by the Venetians, are important to understand where the sea came to in the past. They were the starting point for the repopulation of the area and are still visible in Viale San Marco and around Forte San Felice, a symbolic divide between the ancient “Marina Vécia” and the modern town. Today, the wide range of services for tourists, modern, well-equipped beach, hotels, restaurants, and other places for entertainment, make it a widely appreciated tourist destination. The inhabitants belong almost exclusively to two families: the Boscolo and the Tiozzo, who were all along devoted to agriculture (the typical Chioggia chicory) and to the worship of the “Madonna della Navicella” (Lady of the Boat), who appeared on 24th June 1508.
