The Knit Knot Tree quickly became Yellow Springs' most famous tree after two local women turned it into a community art project.

The tree is located in the in the sidewalk along Xenia avenue, between Emporium Cafe and the Senior Center. Since February, local artists Nancy Mellon and Corrine Bayraktaroglu have been wrapping the tree with brightly colored hand knitted panels. The result looks like a tree wearing a scarf.

The artists plan to remove the knitting in April, since it could harm the tree to leave it in place during the warm spring-summer months.
