Storage Media Destruction

Hard Disk Drive Destruction

The only way to safeguard complete and permanent erasure of storage media such as hard disk drive and magnetic tapes is to use a degausser. Although in most cases this will render the hard drive inoperative, the cost of a replacement hard drive cannot be compared to the cost to a company if sensitive information can be read by a third party. A degausser is a machine that produces intense magnetic field that reset hard drives to a near-zero state, in effect erasing all of the data previously written to the hard drive and making it no longer usable for safe and secure for disposal.

As part of our Secure Destruction services, AEGIS Secure Data Solutions also has the capability of removing hard disk drives from systems and then degaussing those hard disk drives prior to physical total destruction of the hard drive to ensure that absolutely no data can be accessed after disposal.

Magnetic Media Destruction

Magnetic tape is well-suited for archiving because of its high capacity, low cost and durability. Tape backup systems exist for needs ranging from backing up the hard disk on a personal computer to backing up large amounts of data storage for archiving and disaster recovery (DR) purposes in a large enterprise. For the disposal of tapes once their use or the retention period is reached, tapes will not only be degaussed but also physically destroyed by shredding so that it can longer be reused for any purpose. This ensure that your disposed data remains out of reach of any threats.
