Alleghe in the Dolomites

The village

Alleghe is located in the Cordevole valley in the heart of the Dolomites in a unique and extraordinary natural setting on the shores of the lake  and at the foot of the majestic Monte Civetta, 3220 m above sea level. It is an integral part of an extraordinary landscape that has allowed the Dolomites to be recognised as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. The village offers accommodation in hotels and other facilities and allows everyone to enjoy the most interesting experiences in the Dolomite mountains.
For families, Piani di Pezzè is an ideal place surrounded by greenery and full of attractions for adults and children. The lake offers water sports and fishing enthusiasts the chance to catch trout. The central position with respect to the most important mountain passes suggests every day different destinations and itineraries to discover this wonderful corner of the world.

Created in 1771 following a huge landslide that blocked the bed of the Cordevole torrent, Lake Alleghe today extends for about two kilometres and has a maximum width of almost 500 metres.
In summer the waters are an emerald green colour and are ploughed by the rowing boats of fishermen and colourful pedalos. Canoeing, sailing and windsurfing enthusiasts find ideal conditions for their favourite sport in the valley breeze.
The picturesque picture offered by the lake at the foot of the village, overlooked by the north-west wall of Mount Civetta, is of great scenic effect and fascinates those who look out over the valley for the first time, as well as the locals who enjoy this spectacle every day.
The formation of Lake Alleghe has a history that is both tragic and fascinating, dating back more than 250 years. In the summer of 2021, a theatrical performance on the body of the landslide recalled the events to great scenic effect.
