ante litteram 1:1

Encaustic and dry transfer on braced panel, 2013, 27X 18, private collection

Ante litteram literally translates to “before the letters.” Its meaning is related to the creation of something before the word to describe it exists. The visual communication of spatial constructs is central to this creative work and bridges art and architecture to explore investigations into spatial cultural and communicative relationships. Fletcher takes inspiration from pattern, minutia, flow, rigidity and chance.

Margaret Fletcher is Associate Professor of Architecture at Auburn’s School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture.
