Autumn Mountain Festival 2023

San Donato di Ninea is known for the quality of its chestnuts, especially the "Nzerta" variety, with its sweetish flavour and medium size. The fruit, once harvested, is skilfully selected, "water-treated" to ensure long conservation, and resold.

One of the most characteristic events held during the year in the Calabria Region is centred on this fruit: the Autumn Mountain Festival; on this occasion, the streets of the historic centre are dressed up as a festival, with food and wine routes invading the streets.

The 2023 programme favours and promotes the realisation of activities̀ to enhance and promote heritage:

1. Eno-gastronomic and cultural events, including practices linked to tradition, themed culinary events, tastings of typical products, including the chestnut, which is the best known and most valued typical product, eno-gastronomic experiences and workshops, debates, round tables on the history of typical local products, fairs, exhibitions and any other initiative aimed at increasing knowledge of typical food products and the techniques and processes that identify a particular artistic and/or craft production linked to the history and identity traditions of a community;

2. Naturalistic/exploratory with guided tours and excursions offered by the Municipality to the landscapes of the Pollino National Park massif with the aim of promoting the territory in the entirety of its natural beauty and playful-exploratory activities;

3. Musical entertainment, with tastings of typical products, involving Calabrian artists.
