Dang, they don't distribute codes worldwide? At least they should be able to get the physical game to you. I unfortunately know of no other reliable places than Play Asia and Yes Asia right now =.='

Anyway, doing this piecemeal again. If the screencap system on the PSVita wasn't so broken, I would be doing this faster - but as it is the levels are getting longer...

*** Errata ***

Bit more research into the game system since some of them were actually from assumptions of older games.

Focus (or, Morale - or, Will): Default max is indeed 150, not 140.

Focus Over Limit: Each level gives 5, not 10 like in other games. Focus Over Limit L2 gives +10 max focus. Turns out that this was the nerf.

Black Getter <- Propellent Tank

Crossbone Gundam Double Custom <- DLC0 Quantum Computer (because Tobia is 1 level behind and might need the hitrate boost)

Great Mazinger <- Chobham Armor

=== Great Gamillas Empire, Throne Room of the Supreme Leader ===

WNsNQxs.jpg

This episode marks the thousandth year of the existence of the technologically and numerically superior Great Gamillas Empire - an empire that spans entire galaxies and clusters.

It also marks another year of its current rapid and aggressive expansionist campaign.

Albert Dessler, the current Great Leader, doesn't look as if he wants to stop the ol family tradition anytime soon.

cOyt6ms.jpg

As one of the ministers Welte Talan exposits, every contact made with an intelligent alien race goes "capitulate and submit to our annexation, or be destroyed".

This is the secret sauce behind the Gamillas Empire's GDP-based growth. <_<'

The celebration begins in earnest, Dessler surrounded by all his sycophant politicians...

Save for one who's juuuust this little bit genre savvy...

CI0bmfh.jpg

Fleet Commander Dietz. Think we should remember his name. >_>'

He's already got Vice Admiral Domel - y'know, the guy that Schultz mentioned on the offhand - reassigned just to deal with the Terrons.

The Space Wolf will surely have the upper hand.

bFDdk6J.jpg

Anyway, Dessler has prepared some entertainment for his guests at the banquet - footage of his forces winning in the frontlines.

Starring, of course, that pesky Terron ship. It is Dessler himself who planned the next mission to deal with them.

Let the games begin.

===Yamato Captain's Quarters ===

By now, the Yamato is somewhere inside the Oort Cloud, preparing for the next hop.

There's still a long way to go.

qnTQaeV.jpg

Okita is on a long range communicator with the UNEF head Todo.

Word of the liberation of Pluto has reached the inner system, and there's a sense of relief everywhere.

The Earth is still on its last legs tho, so humanity isn't out of the woods yet. Everything still banks on the Yamato returning with the Holy GECK...

PrE28pU.jpg

There is interference and then the signal cuts off.

We can see that humanity hasn't really gone off-System, ever - as while instantaneous subspace communication has been mastered, the equipment is still vulnerable to interference from the Solar System's heliopause.

=== Yamato Bridge ===

SdGFEOv.jpg

Okita duly informs his entire crew about this piece of bad news.

It means that once they leave for the void, there will be absolutely no way to contact anyone in the Solar System.

For this reason, each member of the crew will henceforth be allowed to have one final call to any surviving relatives on Earth.

s766Nez.jpg

Also, there'll be a heliopause-crossing celebration.

Which would work very much like the equator or dateline crossing celebrations that were present in the age of sea
- a tradition that is said to guarantee safe passage to a ship and its crew.

=== Yamato Mess Hall ===

DNNzKg0.jpg

A banquet has been prepared, and Dread Pirate^H Princess^H Tetenith^H Ship's Accountant Bernadette has pre-authorized a feast.

Which is, of course, generated ready-made by the ship's OCMS system.

No, I don't know what it stands for. But, its apparently this universe's version of a Star Trek replicator.

It's only just this little bit more advanced than a protein resequencer found in the NX-Class Enterprise tho, so Nurse Harada quips that well - one is better off not knowing what goes into the food.

dCkcktV.jpg

If you have the Day 0 DLC, Velt.txt will not let that stand and will proceed to attempt to educate the crew...

Well, before Lottie puts the stop on that, because its a real party-killer in more ways than one.

xYmUNis.jpg

Okita enters the mess hall and greets the crew - congratulating them on a job well done in Pluto.

He kicks off the festivities in earnest, but also reminds everyone present that there's no turning back from now on.

Nearby, Sado is trying to find a b33r drinking partner, and completely fails to do so. All he has is The Analyzer, but robots patently do not drink.

s1joR00.jpg

As the festivities begin, Yuki announces the exact amount of time everyone has to call Earth. 5 minutes.

Tobia asks Kincade if he would call Berah - he declines, having already vowed that the next time he speaks to her face to face, was the day they come back from the mission.

Well they have always been this close...

That said, Kincade and Bernadette - even if they are orphaned and all - should send word to Umon, Yona and the rest of the Crossbone Pirates.

3o5gkma.jpg

Nearby, junior warrant officer Yuria Misaki is hanging around one of the security officers.

Hoshina, of course.

She'd really like to drag him off to somewhere private right now.

Unfortunately, he's on the clock (yeah, still). Oh well, its not as if there's any good private space on this ship...

Actually, goes Misaki, she knows some extremely private places, where no one is supposed to enter.

ZH4vJZG.jpg

And hell, Hoshina knows too, being security and all.

The autonav room, for example. But he doesn't recommend it. There's a rumor all over the ship that despite the Yamato being very new, that room is haunted.

There are reports of this unidentified transparent bishojo, trying to whisper to anyone who passes her.

78fL3Ar.jpg

Yuria isn't too worried. She's seen her share of ghosts.

After all, as she reveals, she's spiritually sensitive.

Interesting. Yuria might want to get herself certified as a Newtype.

G5MSFmL.jpg

Ito, meanwhile, is hanging near Niimi, making it look like some peon is trying to chat up the ship's idol.

He wants to talk about something else other than work. Y'know, "that".

Niimi tells him that if he has nothing else to say, he'd better keep contact between the members to a minimum.

Ito shrugs - for now, he hopes they find what they're looking for in the next couple of systems.

59ZKaxj.jpg

Meanwhile, the calls back to earth have already begun, and Nanbu is one of the first to get the chance.

Mr trigger-happy's parents apparently want him to get married when he gets back.

It's good news because his parents are confident that he'll be back.

It's bad news because he doesn't want to be pressed into marriage. He implies he already has... someone.

Tb7nBdA.jpg

If you have the Day 0 DLC, Velt.txt and Lottie wants to know the details. :3

Lottie teases him, and it results in Nanbu, as usual, firing off all cannons before he can catch himself.

Lottie is rightfully offended. As punishment, now Nanbu must tell HER who it is.

K9DmZH9.jpg

Tokugawa edges into the conversation. Actually, if Nanbu waited a little, Tokugawa can introduce him to his granddaughter.

Who... has just started grade school right now, so the wait is approximately 20 years. <_<'

NfVHQgm.jpg

Shima's around too - having just come out of the comms room.

Tokugawa's granddaughter is his kid brother's age.

Doesn't really matter in any case. If nobody gets to Iscandar, they're all gone.

The crew better do what they set out to.

=== Yamato Comms Room ===

H7bWBGO.jpg

It's Yuki's turn, and she'd spent her 5 minutes talking to her foster dad Hijikata.

In parting, Hijikata asks after Okita - and reveals he'd assigned Sado to the ship to keep an eye on his condition.

Yes, its been mentioned on the off hand in Episode 2 that Okita has an outstanding illness. Nothing's happened yet tho.

Anyway, Hijikata wishes his foster daughter a safe journey - and she'd better come back.

=== Yamato Hangar ===

LmqRRHF.jpg

Kambei has grown weary of the juvenile festivities, and has ducked here - only to find that Ryoma and Tetsuya have the same idea.

They're part of the "Nobody to commuicate with" club, after all.

This isn't Ryoma and Tetsuya's continuity, so nobody knows them here.

kOZq03D.jpg

As for Kambei, he actually has no one.

Our MC is one of the many who lost an entire family to Gamilan planet nukes.

And, his friends - Luna 25th, the Anniversary Squardron, left before him.

kt9l4iY.jpg

Kato is there, and well aware of the fate of Lunar 25th.

After all, contrary to earlier reports, Kambei WAS there, on Pluto, and WAS part of Operation M.

No idea why he'd actually told a different story at the beginning of the game.
If this is a translation error, I blame Bamco's proofreaders.

If this is a scriptwriting error, Terada's script needs some more proofreading.

If this is my mistake, sorry =.='

Anyway.

xvWPYdu.jpg

Lunar 25th is the very last full Mech platoon the Solar System had under UNEF control. They were assigned to Operation M.

We know how THAT turned out.

What we didn't know was that the turning point that led to the events of the Prologue occured when Lunar 25th finally fell - literally having fought to the last man against Gamilan zergrush.

I wonder what the MCs' rides were.

Not mentioned at all! Probably Batalla or Pez Batalla. Less likely the MP F91, but I can't put him in Kincade's ride, so prolly not. If he ever gets into a OG game, I expect him to be retconned into a Geshpenst or Huckie pilot, because the OGverse has had a history of squadrons of these getting toasted. :p

Anyway, next update in about... 12 hours?

rxpbaJ0.jpg

Both Kato and Pops have heard the pretty-much-confirmed rumor that Operation M was a decoy.

But it enabled the Yamato's mission, and that, Pops goes, is enough for him and his late platoonmates.

aPjtXeO.jpg

Ryoma remarks that for a laid back guy, Kambei sure has some baggage.

Pops retorts that its better than having his face stuck in a perpetual frown because of being thrown in jail.

Ryoma's mad, but there's actually no problem with joking about this.

Pops means, it WAS a false charge. Plus, at least in this universe, where nobody knows anyone called Ryoma Nagare - who the hell cares?

The Super Robot pilot ought to lighten up just like the 70s.

Ryoma... actually likes our MC's attitude.

Now, Kambei goes, if he could actually smile less like a DOOM Protagonist.

Rbwpnzb.jpg

It looks like the group are ready to go back for the party (seeing that everyone is ribbing everyone right now), so Kato practically pulls rank and orders the lot back to the mess hall.

And yes, upon Pops questioning him, he was sent by the brass to pull them back.

For asking such a silly question, Kato belays that order specifically for Pops - and instead has Pops go look for Akira and Susumu.

dFyCXW6.jpg

Kambei protests - he doesn't know where they are and would have to comb the whole ship.

That's HIS problem tho, goes Kato. And he'd better start now, because the line crossing festivities are almost over.

=== Yamato Workboat ===

xCHZ3Bc.jpg

Susumu is with his former instructor, boatswain Isami Enomoto, helping to conduct maintenance on the workboat.

Enomoto had voluntarily chose to remain on duty to give the young'uns some time off.

Given that the festivities are finishing, he elects to have him and Susumu clean up here and let the recruits do the rest.

Enomoto leaves the scene, but not without remarking that he's seen a change in Susumu - Susumu's much better with women these days. :3

xW9tjxa.jpg

Akira's around too - and she doesn't mind remaining on duty. Like about... more than half the crew, her family is all dead.

Just remember why Kato was overprotective of her in the first place, mind.

She used to have a brother, squadmate with Kato. And she can fly just as well as her brother could.

But Kato didn't want her to share the same fate as her brother, so never let her join the Carrier Space Wing as anything other than a mascot.

In any case, yes, she has no one to call back in the Solar System.

Goes Susumu - yeah, he has nobody left back there either...

=== One of the many, many corridors in the Yamato ===

7y3qbDA.jpg

Because our hero was sent on a snipe hunt, he's now... quite lost.

He runs into Captain Okita, who asks why he isn't in the mess hall.

Kambei is on orders to look for people - and quite fine to be sent off looking for people.

The noise of the party was getting to him anyway.

bF5pSTT.jpg

Okita tries to, at this point, apologize for what happened to Lunar 25th - one of the forces under his charge.

Kambei doesn't mind. His mates were proud to be part of Operation M.

And by the way - they knew damn well what the operation was supposed to do.

PmpekLu.jpg

As Kambei leaves, Tokugawa catches up - because it was Okita himself who got bored of the festivities and ditched, leaving the party to the younger crewmembers.

That's getting old for them: They can count the number of young soldiers who have died so they can live - and need to avoid actually counting, because people's lives are not statistics to anyone in command.

Well Tokugawa would drink to that, he's got some good ol' sake from Sado's collection.

Fine time to have a drink, actually. Okita offers his quarters...

=== Yamato Observation Deck ===

epuZf6P.jpg

Susumu didn't go back to the party - he's holed himself in the observation deck instead.

Yuki's around too, wondering if Susumu has had his turn contacting Earth yet.

He didn't. His whole family is dead - and this is the first time Yuki in particular's heard of it, making the discovery of the Yukikaze on Enceladus even more poignant.

(Of course, this plays out differently in the modern retelling. In the 70s Yamato original series, we had a shot of Susumu spending his alotted 5 minutes curled up in the comms chair - because he genuinely has no one left on Earth.

Some scenes are still done better in the original.)

kbf8xHA.jpg

Anyway, what about Yuki?

Yes, she did call back, but same as Susumu - she has no family either.

You see, she's an amnesiac. Still is. She does not remember anything prior to joining the UNCN.

That's just a little more than a year ago.

(Probably got fast-tracked by her foster parent Hijikata. I think...)

vpyBUx5.jpg

By the way, goes Yuki. There's a strange question he asked on Enceladus - about anyone telling her she looks like an alien princess.

She knows she is a dead ringer for the late Sasha, who bought the last component needed to complete the Wave Motion Engine.

There's a reason for that, she thinks.

Because another Iscandarian princess was on Earth before Sasha.

Remember back in Episode 1, I mentioned some other Iscandarian came to Earth first with encrypted blueprints?

That's Yurisha Iscandar, another Iscandarian princess.

You see, Yuki knows Yurisha *personally*...

=== The Sirius System ===

etbCr5q.jpg

The crossing party having ended, the Yamato's next warp takes it 8 light years away from Earth.

Humans have entered the Sirius star system for the first time.

=== Yamato Bridge ===

BPno7oz.jpg

The Yamato is doing further and further jumps in progression, so the next warp distance is slated to be 12 light years.

The target is Gliese 581. If you're up on your real life astronomy, the Gliese system has a certain significance...

Anyway, leaving that for later, the ship is currently at the maximum range that the Yamato's onboard VLBI telescope can see the Earth at a decent resolution.

Any further and light from the Sun will hide the Earth completely.

On that note, Okita orders Sanada to train the scope at Earth and bring it on holodisplay.

NYG7Cw1.jpg

The bridge crew get a glimpse of a pure blue Earth, as it looked years before the planet nukes fell.

This is EXTREMELY CLEAR for a VLBI at 8 light years away. IRL we have NEVER imaged an exoplanet at this distance, at all.

One can be impressed by how far humanity has come over 200 years.

Even if some of the physics in this universe is cartoon physics, light from the Earth still takes 8.6 years to get to where the Yamato is right now.

Okita orders the crew to take a good look - because *that* is their mission objective - the pure blue Earth, once again.

Then he orders Shima to prepare for the next warp...

=== Bridge of the Le Chevalier ===

j7vcpvd.jpg

Schultz, our current enemy who fled Plato, has a daughter waiting for him back home.

We are going to assassinate someone's dad. Um.

Schultz himselfs predicts he won't survive this episode...

NX0exwA.jpg

He is interrupted by his helm crew telling him that the Yamato has Geshu Tam'd out-system.

He orders the crew to trace the wake.

He'll follow the Yamato, then when the opportunity presents itself, strike with the weapon assigned to him by Goer...

=== Yamato Captain's Quarters ===

tCLwlxS.jpg

The ship is in the Gliese 581 system. Niimi is currently in the room, for one reason.

This system has a potentially habitable planet, and she would like to organize an expedition to take a look.

(Gliese 581 actually has 3 candidate potentially habitable planets of more than 0.8 Earth Similarity Index I believe...)

Unfortunately, Okita vetos that. They simply don't have the time to.

T76JtUJ.jpg

Niimi protests, saying they need a backup plan. Explore all possible options for humanity's survival.

But, goes Okita, they are not following the old Izumo plan - where Earth finds a new world for its people to resettle - anymore.

Before the discussion can continue, the ship shakes, and the alert klaxons come on.

=== Yamato Bridge ===

DZC3YUg.jpg

Okita asks for a status report as soon as he enters.

The ship has just been hit by something, and some electronics are misbehaving.

Nothing's really broken tho, thanks to the ship being shielded.

The Analyzer detects charged particle waves. Sanada comes to the conclusion that the Yamato has hit a plasma wave from the red dwarf Gliese.

y0FH9Gy.jpg

In colloquial english, that would be a solar storm. (Technically, it isn't. We're not near Sol anymore. But we don't have a new word yet, so we use what we know.)

That said... this is no normal solar storm. Earth only has theoretical values of the storms generated by a red dwarf.

The values Analyzer are getting are many times higher than human estimates.

It can only mean one thing - the solar storm was generated artificially.

LZeKNAJ.jpg

Right on cue Yuki detects gravitational waves - a sure sign of ships coming out of warp.

...It's the base commander that escaped from Pluto and whatever remains of his forces.

Before anyone can quote Admiral Ackbar, the enemy flagship has fired a torpedo, prompting Susumu to call all AA Pulse Laser and Torpedo fire on it.

They succeed in intercepting the munition... or did they?

Episode 7: Cosmic Crossroads

=== Gliese 581, as in the star itself ===

mjY2a8m.jpg

Warning: Enemy Reinforcements Have Arrived

Gaiderol "Le Chevalier" x1 /Spawn
Destroia x2 /Spawn
Polmeria x3 /Spawn
Melanca x9 /Spawn

There's... quite a lot of gas from the explosion of the torpedo thats strangely unaffected by the close proximity to Gliese 581.

8WVARRt.jpg

...In fact, its not just unaffected, its absorbing the star's plasma flares.

And it's growing!

The gas has surrounded them - and the only way out?

Right into the sun.

=== Meanwhile, Back in the Throne Room of the Great Gamillas Empire ===

JSa2MAp.jpg

We learn that the OPFOR just hit the Yamato with a terraforming weapon that's named, naturally, after the Great Leader Dessler himself.

For it is Dessler that predicted that they'd head to Gliese.

I don't know if he actually went through Terron historical records and realized that humans would actually LOVE to get a close look at the star they call Gliese 581, or not.

What the game mentions is, he did some course analyses during his free time, made a bet, and it paid off.

As for what was in the Dessler Missile that got shot down?

A really hardy Milvelian Cloud Critter. It will convert, assimilate and absorb all nearby energy.

Keep supplying it energy and it can theoretically expand and grow FOREVER.

This is a biological weapon at its finest, which really showcases how far ahead Gamillas is with weapons of war.

The Terrons have no choice but to attempt to move through the star, or be consumed.

And this is where the show comes in. Which way will the Terrons choose to die?

Dessler calls for a toast to the bravery of the underdogs, the Terrons.

MKzIWqu.jpg

One rather drunk adjutant, Goehin, laughs at the sadism of the Great Gamillas Empire, for they have set a trap and are indeed cheering on the Terrons trying to escape it.

There is a blaster shot.

And Goehin's life ends, with his role even shorter than that of Raleta's, for he only ever had one line.

His smile never fading, Dessler declares that his empire has no need for such vulgar men.

With live onsite hyperspace cameras rolling, Dessler encourages his citizens to applaud the Terrons for the difficult decision they are to make...

=== Back at Gliese 581 ===

ydYkFm5.jpg

...its actually not THAT difficult, a decision, as Okita immediately sees a way through.

No, he's not going INTO the star, but rather he's going to have the Yamato skip across the top of Gliese's photosphere like a stone skipping across a lake.

With that, he has navigation plot a course...

And the /entire LEFT corner of the map is marked.

S6ZUPyS.jpg

Onboard the Le Chevalier, Genz is taken aback as the Terrons seem to go on a suicide run!

Schultz orders an intercept course.

This will of course mean the Gamilan forces will also themselves be too close to the dwarf star.

This is fine, goes Schultz, who already raised a death flag at the very beginning of thie episode.

They will give their lives for the Zaltzians to remain, and drag the Yamato to the underworld with them... if it is the last thing they'll do...

J53Tpr4.jpg

Back on the Yamato, Yuki reports the Gamilans are moving to intercept.

Okita orders the mech platoon outfield.

He should't worry so much, the battlefield is 2D, so they won't ever collide with the cloud creature or actually fall into Gliese. >_>'

There is a deploy screen, but since this stage has enough capacity to let me deploy them all, I just leave their positioning where they are.

BLIOsYA.jpg

Ryoma is the first to remark that the enemy actually has a death wish.

Kincade sees a lot of the fanatical Jupiter Empire in them, and wonders why.

From his perspective tho, he doesn't know that he's dealing with Stockholm Syndrome sufferers.

sKGOD6R.jpg

At this point of time... Okita starts feeling under the extremely hot weather.

Sanada notices, but Okita dismisses his concerns.

Their priority is in the upcoming battle...

Mission Objectives
Victory
Yamato the pushwall escapes from the side of the map and is free OR
Schultz rekt

Defeat
Yamato rekt

(If anyone else is rekt, don't worry - they aren't toast. The game physics won't allow it. :3)

SR Point
Kill all OPFOR in 5 turns.
This includes Schultz.

Not mentioned: you SHOULD save Schultz for last since wrecking him ends the episode, but since Schultz has the highest HP on the map, chances are you WILL leave Schultz for last anyway.

Turn 1: Player

7QD107M.jpg

I didn't need to worry about the cloud creature - it doesn't seem to be implemented in the game, at all.

There is also no real imposed time limit, save for the SR Point, which I do want.

So in this case, I'm using the Capship Slingshot to buy myself 1 turn.

All units /Jump Into White Base.

The Yamato then /Moves forward.

Turn 1: Enemy

We don't really need the auspices of Accel to meet the enemy head on.

Conversation Triggered! Yamato attacks something

sP0LwBZ.jpg

Okita is rousing his men, for they are fighting in the harshest possible climate in space, next to fighting near a black hole.

Of course, the man is trying not to get himself sickbay'd - he can't, not until he sees the Earth restored with his own eyes.

Susumu wonders if they are the survivors from Pluto.

bcwldO0.jpg

This Melanca's machineguns goes /PWING off the shields, and the Yamato's AA Pulse Lasers /tag it for 3.8k.

Note that in the attack animations, the cloud creature from the Dessler Missile is in the background...

Turn 2: Player

To even have a chance of getting the SR Point I need to Return Attack whenever possible, and attack whenever possible.

YAmg3VO.jpg

This means the Yamato needs to charge right into the middle of the enemy forces.

To assist, I have Susumu /Cast Persist just in case someone crits and does enough damage to crack the Wave Motion Barrier.

qqIH8VH.jpg

The Polmerias have been upgraded, each has +3k health more than what appeared in previous episodes.

This one manages to /CRACK the Wave Motion Barrier with its return attack, unfortunately meaning my Persist gets used immediately. :S

At this point, the mechs start deploying from the Yamato.

VcE7Ofx.jpg

Lottie punches away the Melanca that attacked us last turn. /BLANG

Hm, seems that unlike previous episodes, not everyone has anything to say now...

vtvhj85.jpg

Tetsuya meanwhile /BREAST BURRRNS a Polmeria, the same one the Yamato attacked on its turn. It's going to take a couple more attacks given that the Polmeria has a size bonus to its benefit.

The Great Mazinger is not great dodger at all, and /eats the full force of the Polmeria's siege weapon - for 1.9k. Whoops, gotta be careful about incoming.

ztEtoaJ.jpg

Tobia Brand Markers a Melanca for /2.6k damage. Currently his job is to soften targets for others to kill, but I'd like to gain 1 level for him this map - he's behind by 1 level.

Conversation Triggered! Kincade attacks something

KDd9j12.jpg

Kincade wonders where the Jupiter Empire are. Seems they've chosen to sit this one out.

Then again, there's the Pluto garrison. It's... smaller than he thought. He's certain that the empire had more when they conquered the Solar System.

Where are their reinforcements?

...well, I wouldn't expect him to be aware of Schultz being sent on a suicide run.

eZYOF4d.jpg

Kincade akimbo jedis the Melanca attacked by Tobia, but /it survives at 42HP! >_<'

O7iGFAK.jpg

Oh well, Velt.txt cherry taps it. /BLANG.

I guess its fine, I need Velt.txt to start WMDing soon.

qIGbL5m.jpg

Ryoma /joins in the wrecking of a carrier with a Spiral Getter Beam, contributing another 2.8k.

The Getter is more dodgy than the Great Mazinger, but only barely. It still manages to get tagged by the Polmeria's siege weapon. Here you see the Getter's glass cannon attribute as it /takes 2.9k damage.

I actually lost a trade! :X

3Wn9i9i.jpg

Kambei uses his turn to repair the Black Getter.

Kambei /Gains a level! He is now Level 8.

Turn 2: Enemy

lHYX5Nm.jpg

A Melanca and Polmeria double team Kincade.

Kincade /evades incoming missiles, and his response /hits the Melanca for ~2k damage.
The Polmeria - the extremely damaged one - tries to unwisely use a siege weapon on a Gundam, and /Whiffs.

Better example of an Assist Attack, but thankfully the AI can't use spells. :3

jKcPIof.jpg

A Melanca /completely loses the trade with the freaking Yamato, getting knocked straight into 1.1k HP. It is lucky its able to survive that!

Okita /actually gains a level after 5 bloody stages! He is now Level 11, and still outleveling everyone else.

h1cqBmM.jpg

This Polmeria fails to punch through the Wave Motion Barrier. /PWING!

I decide I can spare the EN and have the Yamato counter this one with its Shock Cannon, in the interests of making the SR Point. /BLANG

Sanada/ Gains a level! He is now Level 9.
Shima / Gains a level! He is now Level 9.
Susumu/ Gains a level! He is now Level 9.

skZ2GDZ.jpg

Kincade responds to an incoming /inaccurate Machinegun with /Akimbo Jedi for 2.8k damage.

Tx62uiV.jpg

Another Melanca /meets Velt.txt's Roche Saber.
A Polmeria assists the Melanca, but /Can't get a bead on the Huckie.

Heh, Banpresto strictly used to have a mech-only policy. No powered armor and if its non-transformable ships and planes only, it belongs in another game. Then they put Tekkaman Blade in J... and V is the first game that guest stars a media without a bipedal mech. I STILL want Marika to get her own Crossbone Gundam. :3

Anyway...

WF1nR2f.jpg

Another Polmeria /Still can't crack the Yamato's shields.

I have the Yamato start using up its Type 3 Munitions to maximize return fire. Dealing about /5+k damage per return helps too!

wNC2m48.jpg

A Melanca /unwisely decides to try for the Yamato jackpot.

A Type 3 shell half as large as the aerospace fighter itself /utterly crushes it before it even explodes. OHKO! And it didn't even crit.

VF7gC2u.jpg

Ryoma /actually manages to dodge something!

The Melanca is paid back in spades with the full force of the GETTAAA BEEEEAM. It CRITS, and the Getter Beam reduces the poor aerospace fighter into primordial goo. /OHKO!

Ryoma /Gains a level! He is now level 8.

It's time for Kill Kincade again, as he's double teamed - again!

Kincade gets first strike with the VSBR, /instantly knocking off 4k before anything happens.
He /dodges incoming missiles.
And also /dodges a capship siege beam.

IyKvcu9.jpg

Unfortunately, Continuous Target gets the better of him and Kincade /eats a Destroia torpedo to the face.

I'm really glad I gave him the Barrier Field, but even with it he still takes 60% his HP in damage.

OW.

Kincade responds by Akimbo Jedi'ing the bridge, /knocking it down to ~11k health.

...The Destroias have 13k health now. They used to have 9k.

VbQUXmn.jpg

Kincade manages to /Evade the next set of Torpedoes.

He then /CRITICALLY manages to poke a hole into the bridge with a beam rifle for 2.1k damage.

Turn 3: Player

87rTWPa.jpg

Kambei spends this turn /Repairing the MP F91. See Kambei? That's why they put a repair unit in a frontline mech. :X

B5gFF9i.jpg

Lottie /smashes a Polmeria with the Ketu Rahu Sword for 2.8k damage.

The Grungust being giant-size means the Polmeria could easily /train its siege laser on it. 2.3k damage.

Velt.txt is nearby and /Jumps in with his Leap Slasher. It rips the Polmeria a new O-deck: 1.9k damage.

Lottie /Gains a Level! She is now Level 8.

Lottie /Learns Bullseye, which will make her next attack a guaranteed hit when cast. FINALLY, she sorely needs something like that.

wcT23eR.jpg

Tobia /Shoots down a damaged Melanca with the Zanbuster, so we can see its rifle grenade Dynamic Kill.

Tobia /Gains a level! He is now Level 7.

u8YuRw9.jpg

Velt has hit 110 Focus, so he can start WMDing. :3k

A Destroia /Fails its save and takes 2.4k.
A Destroia /Fails its save and takes 2.4k.
A Polmeria /Fails its save and takes 2.4k.
A Polmeria /Fails its save and takes 2.4k.
A Melanca /Fails its save and is blasted to Danger!
A Melanca /Fails its save and is blasted to Danger!

...This is quite interesting actually. Its as if MAP weapons arent' affected by size penalties. The damage potential is almost the same.

YixuSTy.jpg

Kincade Cherry taps one of the Melancas. /BLANG

dACGysP.jpg

Saving EN and high cal ammo, the Yamato /Torpedoes a Polmeria for ~4.9k damage, and /Tanks its incoming siege laser completely. /PWING

yODUFMN.jpg

Tetsuya completely melts the rest of said Polmeria's HP away with a BREAST BURRRRN! /BLANG

TwhpqoC.jpg

Ryoma CRITICALLY carves a Melanca's engine half away from the cockpit half with a thrown Tomahawk. /BLANG

Turn 3: Enemy

VzbLo5k.jpg

A damaged Melanca /loses the trade with Kincade, and gets blasted to danger.

OA0GcZA.jpg

The Yamato /Bounces a siege beam - and responds with its Cosmo Falcon complement. The combined assault /Barrages it to DANGER.

Mt9d7Gq.jpg

Velt.txt /laughs at the constant foibles of Gamilan targetting systems, as he /Cherry Taps a Melanca in trade. /BLANG

M2zgYH6.jpg

This Melanca never got to attack, because Kincade's VSBR goes first. /BLANG

Kincade /Gains a level! He is now level 9.

zvZKvqj.jpg

A damaged Destroia /gets its Torpedoes bounced, and in response gets swamed by all of the Yamato's Cosmo Falcons for /5.6k damage.

T71m752.jpg

Another one gets its Positron Cannons /PWING'd, and CRITICALLY eats a /full spread of Torpedoes for 5.3k damage.

Conversation Triggered! Yamato attacks the Le Chevalier

The episode boss gets within range.

TpkCe0Z.jpg

Schultz cannot understand the captain of the Yamato.

Even his race, once the fiercest in the galaxy, had capitulated to the Gamillas Empire under such odds.

Yet under odds of the same kind, that Terron continues to fight!

Schultz's heritage will not allow him to back down from this challenge. He must win.

For even if he doesn't come back - he will protect his daughter Hilde's future, as well as that of the other Zaltzians...

gnSuYIV.jpg

I'm fully prepared for the Yamato to have its shields cracked by the Le Chevalier. It pretty much is the only one that can do this consistently in this stage.

The Yamato /Eats a Positron Barrage for 2.8k that SMASHES through its Wave Motion barrier.

But it wins the trade in the end, as a Type 3 Munition /lodges itself square in the Le Chevalier's broadside. It brings its Barrier field online, but even with that, it takes 4.1k damage.

Wait... Barrier Field?!

The Le Chevalier has been upgraded with one this stage, just like the absorbing one gave to Kincade.

...Schultz is so dead because I WANT THAT THING :3

Conversation Triggered! 3 Full Turns have Passed

pO1Ko7j.jpg

Despite environmental damage not being implemented into the game system, our heroes are feeling the heat from being very close to the Gliese 581.

(And, if you have the Day 0 DLC, Velt and Lottie are the first to complain.)

If they prolong the battle too much, they'll give out before their mechs do.

DkpcORo.jpg

The Yamato's feeling the same thing too, because Okita's standing health problem is clearly excaberated by the heat.

Sanada has had enough, and really wants to get Sado up to the bridge, stat.

But Okita still refuses, claiming its just the heat making him giddy. He priortises completing the mission...

Q7b9Pfu.jpg

All discussions are interrupted by a gravitational distortion.

Something ELSE is warping in. At first, Susumu thinks its Gamilan reinforcements, but Yuki doesn't recognise those warp signatures.

Yep, "those". More than 1 unit is coming out of the warp tunnel!

The OMCS is Organic Matter Cycle System. It's not a replicator, since it strictly a food recycler. The crew can get (reconstituted) fried rice out of it, but not the spoon and bowl to eat the rice from. Since no one in the series ever complain about the taste, apparently it's quite good. That or cuisine in bombarded Earth has gone down enough that OMCS food is considered good.

VLBI telescope is Very Long Baseline Interferometry radiotelescope. Technically Yamato should not be getting a picture of Blue Earth, but rather various TV and radio broadcasts from 8 years past. Ah well, anime.

Well that does sound like a Star Trek Enterprise Protein Resequencer. It's nowhere like replicator which was general purpose, generally could only be programmed with a coupla foods - of which users have complained that everything generated from it tastes the same. With Nurse Harada's quip tho, I'm wondering if the fuel source is, um, soylent brown.

Also, while VLBI scopes are radio telescopes and ours can't give us the cartoon physics image of Earth we see in this episode, the ones we use are tuned to a specific frequency, will generate contoured blobs, and cannot be used to watch anime in interstellar space. :3

Right then.

Reinforcements Have Arrived
Gundam 00 Qan(T) /Spawns
Gundam Raphael /Spawns

Tobia, the last real non- MP Gundam pilot of the Solar System, is amazed that there are STILL extant Gundams.

Pops has no idea that the UNEF had more than one FTL-capable vessel.

lRoh33K.jpg

Kincade corrects him - one of the Gundams right there is the one that bought both of them here. Doesn't look as if he knows anything either.

In terms of the New Correct Century continuity, what those Gundams did was state of the art. There should be only one Wave Motion Engine right now. Humans should not have the parts to construct another - let alone a *compact* one.

KbL7WKP.jpg

About 12 tiles away, Tiera Erde and Setsuna F. Seirei (whose "F" doesn't stand for anything) are at a loss.

They were simply performing a couple of long range quantum jump experiments with the Qan(T)'s state of the art Quantum Drive.

This could have gone much worse. They were pretty close to warping themselves into the middle of a star.

Oo3O2Zq.jpg

Still, they've quantum 'ported themselves into a combat zone, which is almost just as bad.

There are 2 combatants - one very Earth-like, and one of a civilization which they've never seen before.

This is it - This is first contact!

Setsuna proceeds to send out a wave of GN Particles, meant as a guesture of friendship...

3oXki0T.jpg

Tobia feels the GN Particles, his Newtype senses tingling.

There is a good reason for this. The Kanji for "Innovator" - Setsuna is one by the time he gets the Qan(T) - is exactly the same as the Kanji for "Newtype".

The symbols are 新人類 for both terms, and in Chinese it literally translates to "new human".

Anyway, these, um, New Gundams don't seem to be hostile. Tobia instinctively knows it.

Kincade's Newtype senses go off too. He wonders if the pilots are Newtypes...

0oKTa41.jpg

Meanwhile, I think the Gamilans are too busy seeing the face of the enemy on the newcomers.

They of course cannot make any sense of GN Particles, let alone tell that they come in peace.

So they respond with an attempt to blow them to pieces.

The Qan(T) and Raphael are /Clusterbombed.

Tiera is distraught that they made an enemy during a historic first contact event. If only the Quantum System were more complete...

Setsuna doesn't give up. He'd sensed some people on the human-looking side have managed to interpret his pseudo-psychic message correctly.

He elects to use standard subspace radio instead...

3CBzxqq.jpg

Aihara is taken aback that the unidentified alien Gundams have pilots that speak Engrish! (Well, the game calls it Earth Common :3).

Sanada and Okita look at each other, and nod. Isekai protagonists.

Okita tells Aihara to respond: the Yamato isn't hostile, and the ship could use their help.

Gg1B2gx.jpg

Onboard the Le Chevalier, the open channel basically confirms the new Gundams are Terron in origin.

Schultz grits his teeth. If the Terrons can send reinforcements just like this, the Empire has clearly underestimated the speed of their technological progress.

He orders them destroyed.

Tiera's IFF shows he's being targeted by the green vessels.

3WPE22W.jpg

Meanwhile, Setsuna has noticed Gundams on the player side.

Well, goes Tiera, that jolly roger, twin-cannon and dark blue one have heads just like their mechs, but still...

They are Gundam, interrupts Setsuna. He will side with Gundam.

Tiera trusts Setsuna instincts. Given the response they received was in Engrish, its probably a black ops force they'd run into, not alien at all.

...he has no idea how wrong he is.

FNWR9aE.jpg

The 00 Gundam characters proceed to signal that they're helping.

Tiera cautions Setsuna to keep himself alive. They still have yet to complete the true objective of Celestial Being - learning the truth about their world.

Mission Objectives Have Been Updated
Defeat
Any Celestial Being unit gets rekt

Turn 4: Player

Vv5QBin.jpg

...Both Setsuna and Tiera start at 120 Focus, enabling them to Trans-Am immediately.

It's implemented in all SRW games as an attack - usually the strongest one - and unlike in the original media, using the Trans-Am attack has no detrimental effects afterward.

(Also, every time I see this mode, I'm reminded of Knight Rider. :3 )

p0UdSJG.jpg

The Rapahel Gundam is an artillery unit that is more armored than the average Gundam, but it has terrible armor for a tank.

Instead, it relies on its GN Field - which has the characteristics of the Yamato's Wave Motion Barrier (i.e... pretty damn good! Now what do we do about size damage bonuses?).

Just remember if you aren't Defending - any damage rating that goes over 2.5k will go right through in full.

8S0O60x.jpg

Tiera is statted to be a Support Defender, having the same pilot skill loadout as, of all people, Lottie. He starts at L2 Support Defend tho, and has a different, more defense and support oriented spellbook.

LgXpmva.jpg

The Gundam 00 Qan(T) is designed as an all rounder - with increasing bennies as Setsuna gets more and more focus.

Its only an average unit with a Shield at the launch Focus of 100.

Once Setsuna hits 110 focus, it will start using its Sword Bits to reduce incoming damage by 1.5k. And this will stack with the Shield if it goes off.

Once Setsuna hits 130 focus, the thing can sometimes teleport to avoid an incoming attack completely (and this is rolled before Shield Defend is rolled).

So at high Focus, it gets multiple second chance defend rolls a turn.

rIEgRAV.jpg

Setsuna himself runs a Focus Over Limit build, and you are pretty much encouraged to frontline him because he gets Focus+ Attack. Pity he doesn't have Support Attack yet.

He carries the 00 Gundam unique skill Innovator; This works quite differently from the flat bonus provided by being a Newtype: it activates only at 140 and above Focus - and when it does, Setsuna gets a hefty +20% to evade and hit - and he gets a +5SP regen (for his spellbook).

Right. Lets give our newcomers a test run since we can fire off their best attacks almost immediately. :3

Conversation Triggered! Setsuna attacks something

e8L6BQ2.jpg

Setsuna has pretty much resigned himself to the fact that his continuity's first contact is totally screwed.

(Well you can't really talk with the Great Gamillas Empire as it is, so no problem really.)

Yet, he'll never give up working on the Qan(T), or he'll stop calling himself an Innovator!

CsBHcly.jpg

The Qan(T) proceeds to /rip plenty of holes in the Le Chevalier. Despite being hampered by its Barrier Field, it manages to take a 3.5k chunk off its health.

6dUwc2b.jpg

Schultz's revenge is not to be sneezed at, and the Qan(T) /takes 6 Positron Cannons to its CT. It's GN Sword Bits deflect some of the damage, but the net result is still 2.5k - close to half its HP.

Not bad against a boss with no assistance actually, but I shouldn't do this too much.

The BGM used here is unique to the 00 Qan(T), and very fitting. Final Mission: Quantum Burst. It plays only when the Qan(T) attacks with Trans-Am.

4xwxk69.jpg

...I think I see the problem. I forgot to do THIS.

Sanada /Casts Analyze on Schultz.

I should have enough for 2 castings.

ycr6vFs.jpg

The Yamato then unloads EVERYTHING on the Le Chevalier in a Volley of Fire. It's Barrier Field barely keeps up! /7.8k damage.

The Le Chevalier responds with all 6 of its Positron Cannon, squarely broadsiding the Yamato for /2.8k damage.

Kambei jumps in with an Assist Attack, and /Unloads a Thunderbolt Positron Cannon in passing - but thanks to the Barrier Field and the assist attack penalty, it barely does anything despite an autocrit. 790 damage. /LOL

Good news is, I'm able to outdamage the Le Chevalier even when it has an absorbing shield :3

gp0KXSQ.jpg

Kincade /Casts Zero-In because 43% are too high receive odds, and 13% is more reasonable.

YYx0IF6.jpg

The VSBR overcomes the absorption of the Barrier Field, smacking the Le Chevalier square on the broadside for /2.4k damage.

Schultz tries to have his revenge, but finds out how difficult it is to hit a mosquito. /MISS

Kambei /Jumps in with another Thunderbolt. Another 750 damage. I guess every little bit helps!

tleacYw.jpg

It's Kambei's turn to move, but I... decide not to do this. Schultz's hitrate is too high even with Zero-In!

And he is now responding with Battleship Volley instead of 3-Barrel Positron Cannon.

I'll come back to this later. Meanwhile...

Conversation Triggered! Tobia attacks something AFTER the strange Gundams spawn

Tobia definitely had his NT senses tingling just now. Whoever the pilot of that Qan(T) unit is, he could be a Newtype.

Well, in a way, Setsuna IS...

Sometimes I really feel like gleefully cackling while I do this.

An extremely damaged Destroia is CRITICALLY bombarded by a hail of micromissiles for 2.7k. /ASH
An extremely damaged Destroia is CRITICALLY bombarded by a hail of micromissiles for 2.7k. /ATOMIZED

...And Schultz is the only man left.

QXuU6OL.jpg

...I accidentally find out how to have Schultz deal less damage in response when he has 120+ Focus - just attack from point blank range.

Battleship Volley has a minimum range of 2. At point blank, he only has Torpedoes, and there only size bonus is helping.

Anyway, Tetsuya /Casts Persist.

KdjNy9Y.jpg

Tetsuya /Melts a huge hole through the hangar with a BREAST BURRRRRN! The Barrier Field mitigates some of the damage. Final result: 1.7k.

The Great Mazinger is too large to even hope to dodge incoming torpedoes - and /takes it like a Super Robot. Persist procs. End result is the Great Mazinger still standing with hands on its hips. 380 damage.

Conversation Triggered! Pops attacks something

rjeX68i.jpg

System 99, having no sense of timing as she hasn't learnt about the concept yet, pops up with a question.

Kambei seems to have 2 different personalities. Which is his true self?

Kambei /facepalms. She must've overheard the convo back in the hangar.

And, the run-in with Okita in the corridors, she adds.

wQX1pwZ.jpg

Pops answers that both of these personalities are still him. It's a human concept.

System 99 does not compute.

Kambei doesn't really have the patience to explain it more right now. The heat is really getting to him...

ecly0go.jpg

Dang, only 350 damage?!
Kambei didn't just lose this trade, he /freaking lost this trade badly. The VangRay eats a torpedo spread for 3.6k damage. This is even with the 10% reduc from Analyze. OW.

At least I managed to get a shot of the Barrier Field activating.

qd7zuO6.jpg

...Okita /casts Trust on Kambei. Yes, the Spellbook can still be opened even after the unit has moved, which is a VERY generous change to the game system from previous games.

Turn 4: Enemy

KdjNy9Y.jpg

Electing to /Defend this because I can't risk a Crit forcing a Game Over.

h0duGeF.jpg

The entire Plato garrison /wails on the Yamato at Schultz's command, SMASHING the Wave Motion Barrier! The crew has braced for impact, minimizing the damage to 1.97k damage.

...hm, ok, this means Barriers have been nerfed. They are no longer doubled on a defend command. I suspect the bonus on Defending is now only 50%, which would be plausible in this case: Incoming 3936 will beat out an absorb of 3750 including extra bonus.

Turn 5: Player

...Hmm, there seems to be this blinking yellow tile on the map. Looks dangerous.

Given that I can end the episode this round, I probably don't need to care. <_<' Still, I wonder what it does...

Sanada of course /Casts Analyze on Schultz to maximize damage.

Time to see what the other new mech does.

Tieria /Casts Persist.

Conversation Triggered! Tieria attacks something

oRcK0v6.jpg

Tieria is saddened that the Quantum Jump test run has catastrophically failed in the worst possible way.

But he's not going to stop working on the Qan(T) because of that.

He'll make sure the way forward for Setsuna is clear.

blzS0ty.jpg

The Raphael lets loose with all its long range weapons from 6 tiles away, backed by the Triple Power of the Trans-Am.

Hm, the Raphael uses Envoy from Jupiter instead. This is the default song for all 00 Gundam units appearing in this game.

Schultz is lucky, /surviving at 920HP thanks to a little help from his Barrier Field.

5TGj033.jpg

The Le Chevalier responds with a Battleship Volley from all remaining ships of the Plato garrison. Together, they SMASH through the Raphael's GN Field! Thankfully, Tieria has a floating Persist, and takes 820 damage.

...And now he dies. :3

Lottie /Casts Fortune to maximize PROFIT!

a7P2UE9.jpg

Schultz gets to see a Terron mech that can transform into 3 different modes for all terrain operations. That would have been a great idea for the next thing in Gamillas Empire development! But /it's the last thing he sees.

Lottie /Gains a level! She is now Level 9.

Lottie /RIPS a Barrier Field and A-Adapter off the wreckage of the Le Chevalier. MINE!

Mission Complete.

We killed everything at Player Turn 5.

SR Point Get!

19hUXVS.jpg

The Le Chevalier has all of its systems knocked out.

Okita takes the opportunity to command the mechs to all get onboard.

Including the newcomers.

All player units /Jump Into White Base.

The Yamato then /Moves to the edge of the map immediately.

mJmNHLp.jpg

Helm notices the cloud creature... getting hit by a solar prominence, and then starting to dissipate.

Sanada makes an educated guess why. Sure it eats energy, but a dwarf star was too much for it.

Captain Okita had bet on the Dwarf Star itself being too much of a good thing for the alien creature.

D9buVgx.jpg

The Le Chevalier has got all its systems back online, and moves to pursue.

There's a solar prominence up ahead, outside of the map.

Okita calls for a ceasefire - lest BOTH ships be consumed by the sun like the cloud creature did.

The response he gets from the enemy ship is a terse "Nuts".

...yep, we've seen this one before.

q7ijts8.jpg

Okita commands Kodai to fire the Yamato Gun off the map, in the direction of the prominence.

Behind them, the Le Chevalier fires everything, EVERYTHING - and the Yamato gets /Clusterbombed.

Okita tells the crew to ignore it and concentrate on getting them outta here.
