  1. So today I was browsing Hidden-Palace's forum (and here, of course, but what this thread's about is what I found on HP) to check on the latest update to the ROM dumping of the Sega Channel Demo Cart. After reading LocalH's latest, I scrolled down a bit and saw... Rika Chou's linking of these pictures.

    MIND BLOWN. My first instinct, of course, was "RENDER THAT TEXT."

    ???????

    Immediate thought was to NicoNicoDouga search it - unfortunately unlike my awesome Satellaview and XBAND clips, there was nothing on the JP Sega Channel. Google got two interesting links though!

    The most interesting one? The shot of the BIOs - it looks nothing like our "Sega Pat" stuff. O: I'm floored! How come no one told me Sega Channel actually came out in Japan earlier? ;-;

    EDIT: This image thumbnail was Google Cache'd. It links to a 404, though;

    You did the exact same things I did after seeing those pics :p I didn't find that 2nd blog though. I really want to know more about what Japan's service was like. Maybe they got more beta stuff than we got over here. Early Sonic previews on there perhaps?

  3. I'd like someone to translate the articles, maybe we'll get some info. I doubt they broadcasted anything that wasn't released over here, though, since the MegaDrive was on it's last legs by the time this even came out.

    There's still a possibility, though. If they have anything like "Garfield - The Lost Levels"... Oh jeez.

    EDIT: Trying REALLY hard here. Finding a few other sites which reference it...

    http://www.geocities.co.jp/Playtown-Dice/1821/lib/hard.html - seems to describe it.

    http://maru-chang.com/gamedb/gamelist.php/SEGA/ - Mentions Ecco Jr. being released on it.

    http://www.kitplus.net/museum/game/hardwar...a/MD/dyna2.html - HERE'S some gold. A game called "Dyna Brothers 2 Special" was originally released on it. This game is apparently now on the Japanese Wii Virtual Console.

    http://vc.sega.jp/vc_dyna2/ - The official page for "Dyna Brothers 2". Someone who knows his sources for pirated Wii Content, get a rip of this!

    http://game.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/news/...828_311511.html - Page about Earthworm Jim 2 on the Sega Channel.

    http://game.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/news/...803_306862.html - "Pitfall - the Mayan Adventure" was on the JP Sega Channel, it seems.

    I'd like to request that anyone who can - GET DYNA BROS. 2 SPECIAL FROM THE VC AND EXTRACT THE ROM FROM IT.

    I don't think this is too surprising, considering this ROM that was available via the Dream Library service in Dream Passport 3.0:
    [IMG]
    (The ROM was a collection, and the games inside it were released as standalone ROMs by drx a few years ago.)

    I'm guessing SoJ must have a lot of their old Sega Channel content.

  5. I must've missed out on that one. o.o Well, I played 16t, somehow... hrm.

    I wonder what's with the Urban Dynamite Dux. :P

    I read drx's article on him extracting the ROMs from "Game no Kanzume Otokuyou", as this is called. Does anyone have the documentation on the origin of that? It seems like it's a compilation of Sega Meganet content designed for Sega Channel.

    Anyway, I don't think I've been able to churn out anything else in terms of info. Stil waiting for osmeone to come up with the Dyna Brothers 2 Special ROM...

  7. I think I already know that much, but what's up with this edition specifically? It's not on the Sega CD, has the Sega Channel JP Logo, and was apparently designed for a "Special" Megadrive according to drx.

    As I mentioned in my post, I got the ROM from the DreamLibrary in DreamPassport 3.0.
    I don't know where the version in GoodGen comes from, but we know at least they were selling it on the Dreamcast's service. It may not have been the first place it was distributed, but it was one of the places.

    (For those of you who don't know, they rented MegaDrive and PC Engine games via the Dream Library service on Japanese Dreamcast's. Sort of a predecessor to Virtual Console. If I recall correctly, it was rental only and you couldn't actually buy them. I remember trying all of the ROMs on the disc years back, that was the only one that stuck out.)

  9. Hmm. I'll take a wild stab and guess they redistributed Sega Channel content on the DreamPassport service back then, as well.
    (I could still go for checking out a PC-Engine emulator for Dreamcast, BTW.)
    This Game Can edition may have been designed for such.

  10. Updating this thread a bit; I've decided to compile a list of what we got on the Sega Channel up to this point;

    Sega Channel;
    US "General instruments" BIOs dumped
    "Demo 4" cartridge dumped
    known missing dumps are:
    US "Scientific Atlantica"
    JP-region BIOs
    (The service was given limited distribution in PAL regions. PAL version BIOs?)

    US Special Edition Games (games that were altered in some form from the standard released):
    Super Street Fighter 2 (1st half of char roster)
    Super Street Fighter 2 (2nd half of char roster)
    Sonic 3D Blast (Part 1)
    Sonic 3D Blast (Part 2)
    Earthworm Jim (With Sega CD levels)
    Garfield: The Lost Levels (Contains levels omitted from the retail game)

    JP Special Edition Games:
    Dyna Brothers 2 Special (contains new features and additions)
    Sega Game no Kanzume Otokuyou (Special edition of "Game no Kanzume" for non-Sega CD owners which has a few Sega Meganet games)* ROM obtained

    US Import Games:
    Mega Man: The Wily Wars (PAL?)
    Alien Soldier (PAL?)
    Golden Axe 3 (JP)
    Pulseman (JP)
    Addams Family Values (PAL?)
    Mr. Nutz 2 (Ported from an Amiga. Dur hur, I'm loltastic.)
    Nightmare Circus (Imported, uh, INTO Brazil?... yeah... I'm just too lazy to make a proper "Exclusives" section)

    JP Import Games:
    Earthworm Jim 2 (USA?)
    Ecco Jr. (USA?)
    Pitfall - The Mayan Adventure (USA?)

    Known Sega Channel-based ROMs as of 11/30/09;
    1) US "General Instruments" BIOs
    2) "Demo 4" cartridge
    3) "Comix Zone" Sega Channel Prototype (from drx's 1024-proto release)
    4) "The Super Shinobi" with Sega Channel Data (From Sega Smash Pack)
    5) "Sega Game no Kanzume Otokuyou" (From Dream Passport 3, features Sega Meganet content)

    Stuff known to exist that isn't available to the public yet;
    1) Dyna Brothers 2 Special (On Japanese Wii VC)

    Any help on that would be nice.

    Don't forget, ocean released alot of games around 94/95 that never had a cart release but instead was put on sega channel in the US.

    Like Addams Family Values and Mr. Nutz 2.

    Also I'm not sure if this will be found as a beta or a sega channel game but its better if I throw it out there. This was found on the recent demo cart dump.

  12. It took me a few seconds to click what was up with that. then I remembered "wait, that doesn't say 'Castle of Illusion'!"

    O_O You really think they ported the SNES game to Genesis, or is that an error?

    As for the Ocean games, I'll throw the two you mentioned down. Any others?

    They released the sequel to Magical Quest, so I wouldn't be surprised.

    Does seem odd that they made a port of the sequel and not the original game. Wonder how far they got into porting it (if at all).

    I'm probably sure it could have been finished or at least had a test drive on sega channel but I highly doubt there has been an actual cart release outside of a few prototypes.

    Even then the protos likely have been locked away over at capcom. Looks like we have another Resident evil 1.5 scenario on our hands. Unless we can obtain a sega channel broadcast disc from one of the cable companies.

    That Capcom Mickey Mouse game was released on the Mega Drive in Japan and America. Seen it on ebay quite a few times.

    That's the sequel, not the original.

    Yeah, I know that, maybe that menu for Sega Channel just forgot the 2.

  19. Gaga may have a poin - Magical Quest 2 actually came out the same year as this, and there -are- some other errors in the names of game titles...

    The difference here is that those other typos don't send us looking for a whole other game. D:
