Ooooh gotta love those Ringedges and Wides. Under Night In-Birth is basically, Melty Blood at 720p with 3D Backgrounds, and that's a good thing :P I'd mind if someone managed to run a lindbergh on normal linux already actually I'd love to play some titles and It's next to impossible to find the games I want on normal arcade places here... It would be easier to "hack" a RingEdge though, since it's Windows based.
Wait a minute, they still make new arcade cabinets? Wow, I honestly didn't know that. I live in the middle of nowhere, and the closest thing to an arcade we have is a handful of cabinets in the corner of the movie theater in Spokane. The latest thing they've got looks about as powerful as a Dreamcast.
Yes and no. Arcade "boards" today are made from off the shelf PC parts, so it's basically just a high-powered mame-ish style cabinet with some proprietary software/firmware. The last internally developed and manufactured sega arcade board was the Naomi 2.
Supposedly GGXXAC+R has been finalised and released today, anyone seen any specs for the Ring Edge 2 anywhere? UPDATE: From what I can decipher of the japanese press, the ALL.NET networking capabilities of the ring edge 2 hardware which is already in certain japanese arcades for testing should go live today as well.
Well, with my 2-years of Japanese language studies, I can get from this page: http://www.sega.jp/arcade/apm/ That the ALL.NET P-ras system is basically the same as NESiCAxLive that Taito used for the TTX2, what it does is share scores between machines and of course, online play enabled machines in Japan. I have been searching for the Ringedge 2 specs for a while but no clue and I don't have one near to check them out. I guess it's not gonna be totally different than a first gen Ringedge, I'm gonna asume that they are gonna use a mid-end card with a mid-end processor from the current generation. I have been watching some epic Initial D 7 AA videos from it and it looks good. I'm gonna try some other japanese keywords that may help on our search but I guess time will tell :v: edit;typo.
Stupid question: do you mean 18 September or 19 September? I find it funny the system is launching with a sole title, which is third party. I took a look at the games listed as 2012 and Coming Soon on Sega of Japan's overall arcade catalogue (http://sega.jp/cgi-bin/amALL.cgi), and I notice the following: http://shining-force.jp/crosselysion/game/sfce/ - Shining Force Cross Elysion is listed as having ALL.Net P-ras but is RingEdge (it also has a staff roll!) http://maimai.sega.jp/index.shtml maimai has ALL.Net but no board listed http://operation-ghost.sega.jp/jn/cabinet.html Operation G.H.O.S.T. is RingWide the other three games (そうぞうキッズ レッツゴーサファリ, 100&メダル 激KAZAAAN!!, and BingoDrop) don't list either online play or a board
20 September was the release day but it's quite bizarre that there has been no fanfare around the new board I've got a contact on the ground in Japan at the moment, he's a games journalist and I've asked him to try and sniff out some info. Haven't heard back from him yet though.
Not really - they didn't make a great deal of fuss over Ringedge, Europa or Lindbergh either. It just doesn't seem to be a thing that manufacturers do a lot of. If I were to guess why, I would imagine it's because most operators are really not so clued up about their tech (this is certainly true of the European market - walk around EAG with me one year and you'll see).
I'd love to take you up on that one day I've heard back from one of my contacts in Japan, she said she'd check with her supplier and get back to me.
It's probably as simple as the fact it's being launched with a third party game. "Check it out it's the RingEdge 2. And we're not supporting it with out own games yet"

Like their Shooting Love games, it will be a combinatino of three games, only one of which I can identify (Combatzeal, which if it isn't a sequel to Exzeal and Trizeal would be a combo breaker)... plus Pengo! (obviously) My guess is it's going to be on the RingEdge 2 because http://sega.jp/arcade/apm/ Sega will be making an "ALL.Net P-ras MULTI" that has all three games on it but who knows for sure

From what I gather, "ALL.NET P-Ras MULTI" is a service which allows arcade operators to download games straight to the arcade cabinet as an alternative to using discs. A blow to preservation efforts for sure. As an educated guess, I think the Triangle Service game is called "Love Arcade: With Pengo!" and contains four games: - "アクション技能検定" which Google Translate is saying means "SKILLS TEST ACTION" - Shmups Skills Test, originally released as part of Shooting Love. 2007. I think it's been altered slightly - "CombatZeal", which I guess is new game - Pengo!
Oh crap, really? Now you've really bummed me out. I was looking forward to picking up a Ring Edge 2 in about a decade, but that puts a spanner in the works. They'd still have to get a physical secuirty key to combat piracy, I would imagine.
