  • One of the best to ever play the game at any level.
  • During his three-year career as a Bearcat (freshmen were not eligible) he established himself not only as the finest player in UC history but one of the finest in college basketball.
  • Was college basketball's all-time scoring leader when he concluded his career, amassing 2,973 points in 88 games--a total that has been eclipsed by only one other player in a three-year career, LSU's Pete Maravich.
  • His 33.8-point scoring average remains the third-best in NCAA history.
  • Also owns UC career records for rebounds and has the second-most assists, a mark he could have also owned had assists been a statistical category his sophomore season.
  • Holds UC single game records for points (62), field goals (23), field goal attempts (36), free throws (22), free throw attempts (25), and free throw percentage (1.000, 14-14). Recorded the top three season point totals (1,011, 984, 978) and scoring average (35.1, 33.7, 32.6) in UC history and holds season marks for field goals (369), field goal attempts (701), free throws (316), free throw attempts (316), rebounds (489) and assists (219).
  • Three-time team MVP and first team All-Missouri Valley Conference selection.
  • Three-time first team consensus All-American and three-time national player of the year.
  • The Oscar Robertson Award, presented by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association to its national player of the year selection and an award first won by him, is presented in his name.
  • His jersey No. 12 was retired at the conclusion of his career.
  • Member of the U.S. Gold Medal-winning team at the 1960 Olympics.
  • Taken with the first pick of the 1960 NBA draft by the Cincinnati Royals.
