the expression "dare i numeri” (in English it’s like go crazy/ lose your marbles/ to act a bit queer) is associated with the concept of "saying nonsense, talking in vain".
it‘s informal but often used also when talking about people we don't know directly.
- il mio amico è così stanco che da i numeri.
(my friend is so tired that he talks in vain)
- in quel programma televisivo c’era un politico che dava i numeri.
(on that TV show there was a politician saying nonsense)
we also use "dare i numeri" to say that something is not working well anymore / it works in a strange and incorrect way.
Il mio cellulare/pc ha iniziato a dare i numeri.
My cellphone / pc go crazy.
“Dare i numeri" derives from the fact that astrologers and magicians, to help the gullible to win the lotto, derive the "right" numbers from their dreams.
That is why this practice as dream sellers has been associated with the concept of saying nonsense.

“Dare i numeri” means “you are crazy”
You say it when someone says something stupid, nonsense or when you don’t agree at all.
It’s a very informal sentence, so don’t say it when you are not close to that person ahah
Sometimes you can say it about your self when you are tired and you are talking nonsense. “Sto dando i numeri”
In Italian we use one sentence in millions different ways
