Question about Italian

What does "lui (gli)" mean?

I'm studying Italian with an app, and it says he = "lui (gli)", she = "lei (le)", they = "loro (gli)". I am sure about "lui", "lei" and "loro" but confused by the words in (). Would you have any idea what those mean?
