The EG2 CRX Del Sol was a quirky, compact sport coupe that was the embodiment of everything Honda stood for in the 1990’s. Featuring cutting edge technology, nimble handling dynamics, and a punchy 1.6 VTEC engine that revved to the moon, the Del Sol represented innovation, performance, and fun in a pint size package. This 1992 model year Del Sol is a near stock Japanese Market example and comes equipped in top-of-the-line SiR trim, a variation the US domestic market never received. The most intriguing feature, perhaps, is the power retractable hardtop, more affectionately referred to by Honda as the “Transtop”. The body is finished in a fresh coat of Honda’s iconic Captiva blue. The exterior is completely stock, save for a set of 15” Volk Racing TE37 forged wheels. The white 6 spoke design is a perfect complement to the blue paintwork and is a fantastic replacement for the drab OEM steelies offered from the factory. The interior is just as clean and impressive as the exterior. The stock bucket seats are trimmed in a matching grey/blue patterned cloth and are in great shape, with no bolster wear, rips or tears. The dash is in excellent shape, and all buttons and switches work as expected, down to the power windows, radio, and climate control. The stock steering wheel is still in excellent shape and feels great as you pilot this coupe down the road. The Air Conditioning is functional and blows cold. The gauge cluster displays just 192k original km’s, which translates to just 119k verified miles. As far as Hondas go, this is barely broken in! Mechanically, this Del Sol is in excellent condition. The original B16A engine has remained in its bone stock form and revs happily to redline, engaging VTEC as expected. Shifts through the 5 speed manual transmission are smooth and direct, with no grinds, pop outs, or other mechanical hiccups. Hop inside, flick a few switches and buttons, and you’ll find the power Transtop to be fully operational. This Del Sol would make an excellent daily cruiser for those living in warmer climates.
