Work will soon begin on a new 26 volume The Critical Edition of the Works of C. G. Jung. This project by Princeton University Press will be headed by Sonu Shamdasani, with translator Caitlin Stephens to undertake a completely new English translation of Jung’s writing, to be proofed by Astrid Freuler.
Each new volume will also include research tools, including historical introductions, contextual annotations that will draw heavily on Jung’s unpublished correspondences, and annotations commenting particularly on works that went through multiple editions. Providing the scholarly annotations alongside Shamdasani will be Gaia Domenici, Martin Liebscher, and Christopher Wagner.
In addition to the inclusion of material available in the Collected Works of C. G. Jung, the Critical Edition will draw Jungian scholarship from recent decades – including Jung’s Red Book and Black Books. The Critical Edition will also incorporate extensive manuscripts and notes discovered only when Jung’s archives were first catalogued in 1993.
PUP was able to move forward with this project after being granted the support of the Foundation for the Works of C. G. Jung in Zürich, and access to Jung family archives.
