Monforte d’Alba it’s a charming old town, lined with ancient red-brick houses and narrow cobblestone roads climbing up this hilltop surrounded by Barolo vineyards and home to prestigious wine crus.
What to see
The ancient town square is dominated by a romanic bell tower, the only remnant of a former medieval church.
The square has recently been transformed into an open-air auditorium – named after the pianist Horszowski – which every summer hosts a prestigious jazz festival, Monforte d’Alba in Jazz.
Right behind the auditorium stands the beautiful eighteenth-century Scarampi palace, on the side of which you can see the baroque oratory of Saint Elizabeth and the church of Disciplinati.
