Kinnikuman is a manga created by the duo of Yudetamago, which is composed of Yoshinori Nakai and Takashi Shimada. The manga was published in Shueisha's Weekly Jump, and received the Shogakukan Manga Award for children's manga in 1985. An animated series was produced using the Limited animation technique.
The story involves Kinnikuman (his real name is Suguru Kinniku), a clumsy fool of a superhero, finding out he is the missing prince of the planet Kinniku, known for turning out the greatest superheroes in the universe. Being a clumsy fool, however, he must prove himself worthy of the throne. To do so, he enters into wrestling competitions and battles evil Chojin, ultimately culminating in a tournament between Kinnikuman and five pretenders to the throne (Kinnikuman Big Body, Soldier, Zebra, Mariposa, and Super Phoenix). Many of Kinnikuman's allies begin as villains (Ramenman, Buffalo Man, Ashuraman, Warsman), and extremely arrogant heroes (Terryman, Robin Mask, Rikishiman).
Kinnikuman Muscle Grand Prix Max put the Kinnikuman game series to a new level. Now, the game includes 33 characters from the anime (the highest to this point for a Kinnikuman game), including those who appear in the Second Generation (basically, the sons of the main characters). Also, the scenarios and its music themes will be easily recognizable for those who watched the anime series.
Kinnikuman Muscle Grand Prix 2 Tokumori: Is the sequel to Kinnikuman Muscle Grand Prix Max. In this game the characters of the first title will be joined by 6 new fighters (Kinnikuman Super Phoenix, Kinnikuman Zebra, Kinnikuman Mariposa, Kinnikuman Big Body, Neptuneman and Big the Budou), thus making 39 in total. Also, there will be 3 new stages (Osaka Castle, Cube Ring and Fist of Heracles).
The game features these game modes: Arcade, Tournament, Collection, Practice, Special (the classic NES games). In collection, player player can view galleries unlocked by performing certain techniques. Silver medal only unlocks greyscale image, while gold medal unlocks colour image. The type of medal attained is based on how accurately the techniques performed and the stage they are performed in mimic scenes from the anime (for example, silver is given for the correct move, but the wrong outfits or wrong stage, and gold is given for the correct move and the correct outfits in the correct stage).
A total of 39 muscle-bound meatheads of all stripes gather together in Kinnikuman Muscle Grand Prix Max 2 Tokumori which is best described as a 3D wrestling game. The Story Mode takes its framework from the "Survivor Match for the Kinniku Throne" story arc where Kinnikuman and friends battled five "destined" champions to establish his right to the throne. As a bonus for fans, Bandai will include the Famicom Disk System game Kinnikuman: Muscle Tag Match (1985) and Kinnikuman: Kinniku Ookurai Soudatsusen (1987) so the players of today can see how they wrestled back in the day. A second bonus on the game disc is an Artwork Gallery which contains 450 illustrations of Kinnikuman and friends.
