Forza d'Agrò (Zip Code 98030) is 255 km. distant from Agrigento, 189 km. from Caltanissetta, 63 km. from Catania, 160 km. from Enna, 41 km. from Messina, which province it belongs to, 300 km. from Palermo, 167 km. from Ragusa, 121 km. from Siracusa, 399 km. from Trapani.

The municipality has 961 inhabitants and an area of 1.118 hectares for a density of population of 86 inhabitants per square kilometre. It rises on a hilly area and is 420 metres above sea-level.

The Town Hall is placed in piazza Municipio n. 1, tel. ++39 0942-721016 fax. ++39 0942-721015.

Main economic activities are agriculture and breeding. Products mostly cultivated are citrus fruits, olives, almonds and wine-grapes. Breedings present are cattle and pig ones.

The original name of the village was Vicum Agrillae, changed into current in the XIV century after having fortified the centre.

The word Forza in fact derives from Latin Fortia, and means "fort", while the addition D'agrò derives from Greek Agròs, and means "field".

First information about the inhabited centre date back to 1117 when it was given to the Monastery of SS. Peter and Paul of Agrò.

In the XIV century it was possession of a new feudal family who founded the castle.

Later it became a royal town and in 1810 was occupied by grest Britain.

The most interesting monuments are the Cathedral Church, built in '500 and later enlarged, the church of the Triade and the ruins of the castle of the XIV century rebuilt in 1595.

Interesting is to see the processional Gonfalone (gonfalon) of '500 kept inside the Cathedral Church and valuable for its wood inlays.
