The Church of San Paolo

The small town was founded in 1329 by Bartolomeo Alagona near an ancient vedette tower. Later king Martino I took it away to Alagona and gave it to Eleonora Centelles. In 1414 it became a possession of the bishop of Patti and for a long time it has belonged to him.

The most interesting monuments are the Cathedral Church recently restored which inside keeps valuable wood statues of St. Michele Arcangelo and of Ecce Homo, the Church of Madonna della Catena and the Church of San Paolo.

Among important characters original of this place we cite the historiographer Antonio Collurafi (1585-1655), who was named in 1643 Royal Historiographer of Sicily by king of Spain Philip IV and Andrea Muscarà, avvocato del fisco e assessore alla grande curia arcivescovile di Palermo e alla gran curia regia.
