About…sono in ritardo

“Sono in ritardo” what what what?

Sono in ritardo” means “I am late” in Italian (or “I shall be late”, as it was in the original Lewis Carroll’s book). The name was born a few years before the blog, while I was studying for my PhD, in a time of great confusion on where I was going with my thesis and of general lack of inspiration. Mainly thanks to broadband (which wasn’t that common while I was at uni, otherwise I am pretty sure I would have never graduated), I developed a unhealty bound to fail personal method of dealing with this crisis: procrastination! Not knowing what to write/think/research was making me anxious, so, to put this annoying feeling to rest, I would put it off. Basically, I would do anything as long as it didn’t mean having to think about/deal with my research (mainly sleeping – I am talking unhealthy rythms, like 14 hours – chatting with equally easily distracted collegue and watching TV series). I doesn’t need saying that this ongoing putting off things was only making me more anxious. Anywaaaay. Lost in this vicious circle like an hamster in his wheel, Alice’s White Rabbit kept coming to my mind, with his constant “I shall be late! I shall be late”. I identified myself a lot with the creature. In the end I managed to write the thesis last minute and even to get my PhD, but my attitude toward life hasn’t changed much. What better name for a blog which legitimate my messing around?
