Marc Berthod becomes ambassador for SPOG’s childhood cancer research

Former alpine skier Marc Berthod is supporting the Swiss Paediatric Oncology Group SPOG, which is responsible for clinical childhood cancer research in Switzerland, by becoming an ambassador. In doing so, he is following the example of popular TV presenter and former ice hockey player Jann Billeter and well known blogger, columnist and comedian Yonni Moreno Meyer, more familiarly known as Pony M, both of whom are already advocates for SPOG’s paediatric clinical cancer research.

Marc Berthod, well known for his career in Swiss and international alpine skiing, is passionately committed to his role as ambassador and to supporting SPOG’s efforts to combat childhood cancer. He places particular emphasis on the urgent need to promote research and improve the quality of life of children and adolescents with cancer and blood diseases. “The work that SPOG does is crucial to improving the quality of life of children and young people with cancer”, says Berthod. “I feel honoured to be an ambassador for an organisation that wants to improve these children’s lives.”

SPOG will be working with Marc Berthod during September – international Childhood Cancer Awareness Month – to highlight the importance of paediatric cancer research. This is crucial because children are not simply small adults. They develop different types of cancer and respond differently to medicines. Researching their cancer separately is essential so that their particular needs can be taken into account. SPOG intends to raise public awareness of childhood cancer research using a combination of activities, including a new website, an informative explanatory video and a stronger social media presence. Furthermore, SPOG has been able to enlist several companies in partnerships to generate greater support by raising awareness of the importance of paediatric cancer research.

SPOG and its ambassadors are passionately committed to a future in which all children and adolescents with cancer can be cured. Marc Berthod’s support puts the organisation in an even better position to achieve this vision.
