Your fatigue matters. The more your fatigue bar is full the more likely you’ll land attacks so be patient with your swings and don’t let your fatigue bar go down. Your fatigue applies to you successfully casting spells or performing an action too (like persuading or lock picking).
Agility is the main attribute that contributes to the likelihood of landing attacks so level that attribute up early. Willpower does the same thing for spells. Luck helps with both but not as much.
Carry scrolls or have spells that’ll teleport you to the nearest shrine or temple (it’s the closest thing to fast travel in this game when you're not in a town/city). Don’t be afraid to lookup a guide that provides a map because sometimes you’ll truly get lost.
