Living in NJ for the past 4 years has been an adjustment. Sure I still commute into the city for work, but as I’ve learned more about my town and the neighboring ones I’m realizing all the amazing and wonderful things right in my backyard. When the opportunity came up to check out the newest neighborhood Bistro, Piattino in Summit, came my way I was excited to explore even more of all that NJ has to offer.

Piattino Neighborhood Bistro Summit, NJI was excited to check out Piattino, it’s Italian style menu focuses on making everything from scratch and sourcing artisan ingredients from around the world and it’s own backyard. I was also intrigued about the imported Italian stone-fire oven.

Piattino Dinner Summit NJWe decided to check it out for a date night on a Sunday. I also wanted to get dressed up a little, it’s rare that we get to go out and have fun, and usually our date nights never go as planned. I liked the ambiance of Piattino. It was able to mix together both a casual and fancy feel. I saw people sitting at the bar eating; watching a game on tv, families enjoying Sunday night dinner together and couples having romantic moments while enjoying a dinner out. As we sat at our table we were given an iPad with the wine list, you couldn’t order from that, but it was nice to see the selection and they also had an option for recommendations for what pairs well with certain menu items.

Piattino Regional specialsSpeaking of menu items. While they have a regular set menu they also have a special menu based on Italian regions. This menu changes every 6 weeks. We got to experience the Veneto menu. I love this idea that there’s always something new to experience and learn.

Piattino charcuterieWe started off our meal with charcuterie plate and cocktail. I’m a sucker for a good meat and cheese plate and this did not disappoint. Even if I ate nothing else I would come back for the customizable chacuterie plate alone.

Piattino Lobster CavatelliFor an appetizer we tried the Lobster Cavatelli (Homemade Mascarpone Pasta, Lobster Tail, Tarragon, Fennel, Pine Nut Crumble).

Piattino Figura e FormaggioI felt we couldn’t not try a pizza while there so we picked one from the special regional menu. Figura e Formaggio (Fig Jam, Blue Cheese, Asiago Cheese, Arugula, Balsamic). I will go back before this menu is over just to get this again, and with a price of $13 you’ll walk away full and happy.

Piattino BrasatoThe main course was also from the regional menu. Brasato (Braised Beef & Radicchio, Tomato Relish, Polenta, Watercress) and this meat was cooked to perfect falling apart as your fork touched it. The tomato relish was also a surprise and delight compliment to the meat.

Piattino DessertOur stomachs were full, but we had to try dessert. Since we couldn’t agree on one we got 2! Lemon Olive Oil Cake (Lemon Cream, Whipped Topping and Raspberries) and Nutella & Pistachio (Sticky Nutella Cake, Pistachio Gelato and Vanilla Sauce). Both were amazing, and surprising light. It was a perfect end to a wonderfully tasty dinner.

We both left excited about planning another date night in the future and family dinner and girls Sunday brunch. Not only did we feel comfortable hanging out and taking our time to enjoy our meal, we continued to discover more things that got us excited about coming back again. They have a daily special and apparently Friday is a favorite! Plus the prices are affordable.

I’m excited to share that Piattino will give one lucky reader a $50 Gift Card for either the Medham or Summit restaurant. Giveaway open to US entries age 18 and over. Giveaway ends Thursday, May 25th at 10pm ET.
