Peter Crouch says he’s been blown away by 22-year-old Tottenham player this season

Peter Crouch has raved about Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven after the defeat against Chelsea this week.

The Dutch international has been one of the signings of the season so far. He has been magnificent for Tottenham, but unfortunately for him and Spurs, he is set for a spell on the sidelines now due to injury.

Peter Crouch praises Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven

Tottenham signed Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg in the summer in a £43 million deal (Sky Sports), and he has been worth every penny.

The 22-year-old has formed a tremendous partnership with Cristian Romero at the back for Spurs, and he’s one of the biggest reasons why Tottenham hadn’t lost a game in the Premier League before Monday.

In the game against Chelsea, Van de Ven suffered what appeared to be a very painful hamstring injury. Fears that he could be out for months have emerged this morning as well.

Peter Crouch raved about Van de Ven yesterday and admitted that his injury is a big blow for his old side.

He said on talkSPORT (7th November, 9:08 am): “I even said last year, that was a problem area for Spurs I think at centre-half.

“I think with Van de Ven, they’ve signed someone who’s been a revelation I think. He kind of made Romero better I think as well and other than last night he’s been really disciplined. Obviously, they’ve got the pace and the tenacity as centre-halves.

“He is going to be a big miss.”

Tottenham could be in trouble now

Ange Postecoglou has been fairly consistent with his team selection this season, but he will have to change things up against Wolves this weekend.

Micky van de Ven is almost definitely ruled out, while Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie are both suspended. James Maddison is also an injury doubt after hobbling off the pitch on Monday.

That’s four key players Tottenham will potentially be without, and Wolves will surely fancy themselves against this tweaked Spurs side, especially at the Molineux.

It will be interesting to see what Postecoglou will do, but if he doesn’t get it right at the back, things could go horribly wrong.
