Italian Pop Surrealist Collage

Join us for a fun-filled night of popping images, paper materials, cut outs and pasting!
Surrealism seems to make a lot of sense in a world as crazy as ours! So does pop art in terms of how steeped we are in commercial imagery!
In this workshop, we will look at two amazing artists: Giorgio de Chirico (surrealism) and Eduardo Paolozzi (pop art) We experiment with combinations of differing and unique images to create some bright vibrant play-scapes with an Italian vibe and welcome the upcoming Italian Series at The Art Space Collective.
You will make a wonderfully interesting somewhat surreal FRAMED pop collage on card. You will also have the opportunity to exhibit your piece at The Art Space Collective over the month of June for our Italian Series.
Marite and her scissors welcome you for a fun night of cutting, arrangement, glueing, antipasti and prosecco.

Surrealism is about distorting reality. It’s about contradictory elements, random associations and also mysterious, even dreamlike landscapes and environments!
The best thing about surrealism is that it is just letting it all flow from your unconscious mind onto the page – sounds easy, right?
Looking at the TOTALLY cool Italian artist Giorgio de Chirico – who had a profound influence on the surrealists – this workshop delves into Roman arcades, long shadows, mannequins, trains and illogical perspective… oh and with a few lemons and bananas thrown in for good measure!
Pop Art started in the 50’s, flourished in the 60’s and drew from sources in popular and commercial culture. Pop art began as a revolt against the dominant culture and traditional views of what art should be.
Exploring the work of the awesome pop artist Sir Eduardo Paolozzi, born in Scotland to Italian immigrants, we look at imagery from things we see every day: Hollywood movies, advertising, product packaging, pop music and comic books.
In 1957 pop artist Richard Hamilton listed the ‘characteristics of pop art’ in a letter to his friends the architects Peter and Alison Smithson:
