Yes, another big-box store is closing in our community.

Bed Bath & Beyond announced earlier this week it is closing about 150 stores, including nearly 90 Bed Bath & Beyond locations, a handful of buybuyBABY stores and all of its Harmon-brand locations.

Included in this latest round of closures: The Bed Bath & Beyond at 540 N. State Road 7, Royal Palm Beach, in the Coral Sky Plaza. Bed Bath & Beyond stores in Jupiter, Boca Raton, Delray Beach and Boynton Beach also will close, plus a Jupiter Harmon store. The announcement follows the recent closure of the buybuyBABY store that was in the same plaza next to Bed Bath & Beyond in Royal Palm Beach. Other recent closures in our area include the Fresh Market and Kirkland’s Home stores in the Wellington Green Square plaza near the Mall at Wellington Green, where the shopping center’s owner plans to tear down part of the plaza to build a new Publix store.

According to Axios, the Bed Bath & Beyond parent company recently defaulted on its debt but has not filed for bankruptcy. The company has been “distressed for years,” Axios reporter Kelly Tyko wrote. Since September, the company already had announced dozens of store closures around the country.

A closing date wasn’t immediately available. Wednesday morning, “Store Closing” signs were posted in the windows, along with signs offering 20% off everything.
