Crash Bandicoot, the poster marsupial for PlayStation, is back. In this third installment of the popular action-game series, Dr. N. Trophy has built a time machine to collect the gems and crystals dropped by Dr. Neo Cortex. Joining this dastardly group is Dr. Cortex's boss Uka Uka, a freaky floating mask that is out to crush Crash. It is up to Crash and his sister, Coco, to conquer this threatening threesome and grab the goodies.
Warped offers 25 levels of challenging solo action. If you have a dual shock controller, this game takes full advantage of its vibration feature, which is especially fun when a dinosaur is chasing Crash. The music is appropriate to the action and the controls are easy to use. But it's the graphics that make this a stand-alone title. A team of artists worked on this game to design seamless movement that is more like an interactive cartoon than a game.
Novice gamers will enjoy this title for its ease of movement and challenging gameplay. Hardcore gamers will appreciate its hidden secrets and shortcuts. And how can you go wrong with Arabian cities, underwater worlds, medieval times, menacing frogs, pirate-head cannonballs, and creepy scorpions? Crash Bandicoot Warped is a goofy game with enough fun features to satisfy both diehard and beginning gamers. --Kasty Thomas
Pros:
- Superior graphics
- Dual-shock capabilities fully utilized
- Hours of gaming
Cons:
- None!
Review
Crash Bandicoot started life as Sony's attempt at a mascot. He did reasonably well but never quite caught on like Mario or Sonic. But regardless of his status as a mascot, Crash has always managed to make a good game. In Crash Bandicoot 3, the evil Dr. Cortex is up to no good yet again with a new band of henchmen for you to defeat. This time the game takes place across a great expanse of time and space, making for greatly diverse level designs, which in turn keep the game fresh.
The 30 different levels are mostly composed of the same 3D platform-jumping obstacle-evading Crash levels that we're used to. Some levels, however, allow you to take control of vehicles such as a biplane, motorcycle, or Jet Ski. These levels are almost like little minigames that spice up the action and break up themonotony.
As before, when you go through the levels you are rewarded with crystals and gems. In Crash 3, you can also collect a relic for beating a level within a certain amount of time. Also new to the third game is the ability to learn new moves upon defeating a boss. Abilities like the super belly flop, double jump, super spin, and super run definitely help you to get through the levels faster. These moves will also help you unlock secret levels. Visually, Crash 3 is flawless. The smooth character animations and bright, colorful landscapes make the game look like a cartoon. Amazing attention to detail and gorgeous lighting effects give torches, lasers, and other illuminating objects in the world a life of their own. All of this along with a refreshingly fast and steady frame rate easily makes Crash 3 one of the most beautiful PlayStation games ever.
Crash 3 even delivers in the audio department. It has outstanding music, sound effects, and character voice-overs that are not only extremely well done, but the onscreen lip-synching is almost perfectly matched to the voice.
In the end, Crash Bandicoot 3 is easily the best Crash yet. Every aspect of thegame is better: new moves, levels, bosses, graphics, sound, and gameplay. It'sthe most fun I've had with a 3D platform game in a long, long time. It's a must-have for fans of platformers.

For those who don't know Crash Bandicoot first came out in the 90's as a standard, straight-forward platformer. You're a mutated Bandicoot named Crash who escapes from the evil mad scientist Dr.Neo Cortex and must go back to save your girlfriend. In Warped Dr. Cortex now works for Uka Uka (The brother of Aku Aku) an evil mask that wants to destroy crash and take over the world. He instructs Cortex to go through time and collect Crystals and Gems that hold extreme power. Crash has to literally race through time and jump, spin, and dance his way through time to retrieve them before Cortex gets ahold of them.
This game is just as fun as the first one. It brought me back to a time where video games concentrated more on gameplay and content rather than graphics which games today seem to concentrate almost too much on. The controls are spot on. You can build momentum for jumps, move in any direction, and really I never had problems with the controls even in the first Crash. One thing I REALLY love about this one is that I don't feel bad when I die! This game has some really interesting death scenes rather you're forcibly kissed by a frog that changes into a prince, eaten by lions, thrown into the screen by a two-headed fat person, or so on. When I finish the game I plan on seeing how many ways I can die:) Some worlds replicate each other but are harder and take more and more skill to get through. The boss battles are really diverse and take strategy, timing, and skill to get rid of. I must confess I found the first boss and 2 worlds extremely easy. Its not until the 3 that the game just goes "F*** this! I'm gonna make your time a living hell"! Its still way easy so far compared to the first game though which really did what I said above. I also noticed something that first caught my attention in Wrath of Cortex. The game seems extremely open when it comes to lives. Seriously I'm not even half way through the game and all ready up to 50 almost. I guess I'm that good at playing. Im definately buying the second one.
I admit I'm disappointed at the way the turn the series have made. I wish they kept it as a patformer and just added maybe some adventure elelments to it like they did Twinsanity (even though its glitchy as hell). Naughty Dog where did you go? Crash Bandicoot Warped is just what I expected it to be. Its funny, addicting, challenging and overall just shows graphics don't make the game, but its content and gameplay.
I used to play this game so many years ago now, I cannot express how excited I was to find it again! I was very satisfied with how quickly it came & with the quality! As well as the game within the package a personally written note was included, which was a fantastic touch, thank you :)
Pros: Wide variety of games, good graphics, challenging, speed.
Cons: The graphics not being good at 3D perspective, may cause difficulty in judging the distance or depth. After a few times of playing, one develops a sense and then it is okay.
