5.0 out of 5 stars More Challenging than You Might Expect
Reviewed in Canada on August 10, 2017
This game is somewhere between a full reboot and a remaster. The reason I say this is because apparently, the source code to the game was not used when making this, which means it had to be made from scratch. Despite this large setback, this game is very true to the original 3 games; the N Sane trilogy looks infinitely better than the games I played as a child though. The artwork and soundtrack are absolutely stunning, it makes replaying the levels several times an absolute joy.

However, it is absolutely worth noting that you should not get this game if you are easily frustrated. The platforming is very timing sensitive and you can expect to die several times in the first two games. The amount of deaths is reminiscent of Dark Souls. The animal/vehicle controls are a little finicky which is unfortunate given how many improvements have been made in the video game field since these originally came out.

The only real problems I have with this game are load times. Dying often isn't so much a problem as waiting to be loaded back into a level; I've loaded different areas of Skyrim faster than I've loaded into Crash after a game over screen. This is really not something that should be happening and I hope it gets patched but so far, nothing.

The collection is probably worth getting it for nostalgia's sake but do remember that it isn't a cakewalk. Some of these levels will frustrate you to no end; I enjoyed the difficulty but I know many people do not.

5.0 out of 5 stars They did an amazing job of remastering the game with beautiful graphics yet ...

I was so excited i preordered and ended up getting it a day earlier than release. BONUS. When i started playing i immediately started remembering. They did an amazing job of remastering the game with beautiful graphics yet not one thing has changed. Every level, secret passage etc are the same. My only concern is how did i beat this as a child. Game 1 is HARD, i actually gave up after spending hours on native fortress and moved on to game 2 Cortex Strikes Back. I like it more because you can crouch and slide and belly flop instead of just spinning :). I'm not a big gamer by any means but thank god my husband has a PS4 because I was so excited to get this I've been going on about Crash Bandicoot for years and how i missed it and blah blah blah so now i can relive my glory days.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grew up playing Crash Bandicoot on the PSX.

Was very nostalgic playing this game. I played Crash Bandicoot 1, 2, and 3 for many hours as a kid. Graphics are way better. The game feels the same but with Activision's name associated to it instead of Naughty Dog. Still fun and challenging.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sane Trilogy is a mostly phenomenal remake of 2 great games and one game that hasn't aged well
Reviewed in Canada on January 26, 2018
The Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is a mostly phenomenal remake of 2 great games and one game that hasn't aged well.
Pros:
- Crash 2 and Warped are still great games 20 years on
- The graphics and music are excellent
- Smart quality of life improvements such as improved check pointing
- addictive and well done platforming for the most part
Cons:
- Crash 1 is remarkably rough with basic platforming, some truly terrible levels, and archaic design. Vicarious Visions should have spent more time touching this one up gameplay wise.
- Time trials are a bad addition to the prior two games especially Crash 2 where they only serve to make the platinum difficult to obtain (no reward for getting them minus two gold trophies) and frequently clash poorly with that games intricate design (Spaced Out and Piston It Away are bad examples)
- There isn't much bonus content in Crash 2 and Warped like there is in Crash 1 with Stormy Ascent. Unfinished levels from the original releases being added into the game like Stormy Ascent would have been excellent considering Crash 2 and Warped are infinitely superior games to the archaic Crash 1.

For all the younger generations who didn't grow up playing the original ps1 or even n64, let me paint you a picture... Crash Bandicoot is to PlayStation what Mario is to Nintendo. When I was a kid back in 1995, I saved up all my money from delivering papers, mowing the lawn and collecting all my fathers spare change to buy a PlayStation 1. Because I was most definitely broke after purchasing the system, I had to settle for almost a year playing the games from the included demo disc. One game in particular that instantly fascinated me was the first Crash Bandicoot. This was the first time I had ever seen a 3D game. Before the PlayStation, I only had the original Nintendo, so seeing that multi dimensional character traverse a world where you can send that character in all different directions was an endless joy ride. I must have played that single level of Jungle Rollers maybe a 100 or so times.... I just couldn't get enough of the graphics! Going from playing 2D games like Super Mario 3 to Crash Bandicoot was one of the best experiences of my life.

So one day my parents surprised me and bought me the full game. I guess by now you can imagine my excitement when I popped this in the PS and was finally able to go beyond that demo disc level! Every morning and after school (and after homework of course ;)) I played and played.... and played some more.

Then, in 1997, I was pleasantly surprised when my local Sony store called up and asked if I would be interested in playing Crash Bandicoot 2 before it's release, competing against other players in store. The person who made it the furthest in the game won a copy of the game and other cool prizes. Long story short, I competed and I won. But my mother called the store before hand and said that if I did win not to give me a copy of the game as she had already pre paid for it to give it to me for Christmas.. after I had gotten quite angry with the guys at the store, they confessed to me the truth.. but ended up giving me a shirt, poster and a few other things. That being said, I still had a great time playing all day with everyone else.

So you can understand when I tell you that this remastered version is truly something special for me and to so many others who spent hours playing that one level over and over again. Vicarious Visions did an amazing job!!! While most young generations have grown up playing multi dimensional games on 1080p TV's, they will probably not understand the hype.. but if you guys want to experience a piece of history in a remastered state, order this game right now!
