My three year old son loves the material that comes with this software. The snack game will keep him entertained almost endlessly. Kai-lan's voice patiently guides him through all the instructions. The other games included are still a little bit too old for him, but I was extremely happy he has no problems with the snack building game. We own the Toy Story software as well and both of the games there are WAY over his head.
The storybook is very cute. If you're not familiar with the Ni Hao Kai-lan show, Kai-lan has many different animal friends, all of whom have specific personality traits that cause them to run into trouble from time to time. In addition to introducing young toddlers to Chinese culture, the show also examines emotions and how to control them. The software is an excellent extension to the game, using the voices of the characters on the show, unlike some of the other iXL software.
My little girls love Kai-lan and quite honestly, so do I. The characters are cute, reassuring and truly help the little ones learn about emotions, chinese culture and a slew of basic skills. The story and games included in this software keeps my girls much more entertained that princess software they also have. And, I think the content is better. Kai-lan makes me super happy :-)
I get the feeling that they purposefully make some of the things in these software lame in an attempt to motivate people to buy others. There is a lot here and if all the functions were fun, you wouldn't need a lot more of these for a preschooler. The games are fairly lame but they do make a stab at being educational. The story is better than the completely idiotic monkey story that comes with the original system and the drawing program has some cool things added.
This game is very interesting as well as educational for my two year old. He loves the music and activities that come with the game. I also like the fact that it teaches him Chinese and English.
Ok this game is great. My child loves the game system and the games. All that said they do not have a rechargeable dock station so you will go though alot batteries. So if I knew this I would never have purchased the game system because I have not spent more money on batteries than on the system itself.
My daughter (4+) received her iXL for Christmas 2010 and she still actively plays with it. She has Toy Story, Shrek, Kai lan, and the Princesses... and out of them all, she prefers Kai lan the most. Apparently, there is a food preparation game in Kai Lan that she just loves. I don't know the intricacies of it, but whenever she plays it she gushes at how much fun it is and how some foods are harder to prepare than others. "I just love it!"
I'm happy that she still enjoys her iXL a year later. Fisher Price is a bit slow at adding new titles (once a year?), and their installation software really screws around with your operating system. I'm a computer guy and it took me an entire evening to undo the permissions havoc their update software wreaked on my MacPro.
Our daughter got an iXL for her birthday in December and I've been watching the Kai-lan software for it to go down in price. Well it finally went down to $19, so I bought it for her. We downloaded the software 3 days ago and she loves it! Highly recommend!
