In this action-comedy pack movie, a group of ragtag freedom railroad frighters lead by Jackie Chan, find themselves on the wrong side of the tracks when they decide to ambush a heavily armed Japanese military train for desperately needed supplies and have to use their wits when they are outnumbered and outmanned and not enough weapons....great cast they make the movie absolutley funny and they bound together like brothers

What a stupidly, retarded, funny movie. :) It takes a light look at the actual horror of the Japanese invasion of China in WWII, and the Chinese patriots who opposed them. It has been over 80 years since then. I don't think the memory of the patriots is diminished by the humor of this movie. And, though nowhere in the movie was it touched upon, it reminded me of all the help and teamwork at the time between the Chinese and Americans.

Jackie is just as good in Chinese as in English (not a surprise, right?).

I'd definitely recommend this movie.

I think the problem with most reviewers is a lack of understanding, of Chinese mentality, history or of Mandarin, and that is also a fault of the production for English speakers. One example is that no where on the DVD cover or or blurb or any review is what was translated for me from the Chinese on the cover- this movie is based on a true story. I think without a reference point they lose their footing, not realizing the horrors visited on the Chinese by the Japanese at this time period. If it was understood that these peasants were fighting the equivalent of the Nazis, a little like Hogan's Heroes (also loosely based on a true story) that would orient the viewers, and if they understood more about Japanese culture, they'd likely get the jokes. As we are steam train aficionados, studying Mandarin, and learning about Chinese culture, and also I like Jackie Chan movies- I didn't even realize it was a Jackie Chan movie or that was Jackie Chan until some time into the movie. Its a lovely movie I watched several times and very funny.

it's the japanese against a tiny group of chinese . their mission is to destroy the bridge with the train on it. this takes up a very large part of the movie. the japanese leader keeps calling the chinese hicks or that is the translation in the subtitles. each side has a one woman. the japanese woman is very evil and the chinese , very sweet.

What a film ... what subtle comedy ... what action! Leave the English subtitles on and do not miss any of the asides, the jokes, the double meanings. Jackie Chan has a winner here, and what a supporting cast. Actress Lanxin Zhang as "Yuko" the inspector of the Japanese Military Police is simply terrific as the cold hearted, defiant, nasty villain that you have always wanted in a Chan film in this farce she fills the bill. Her fight with a locomotive engineer as the train speeds along is brilliant comedy. And her reaction to a drunk subordinate trying to kiss her as she interrogates a prisoner is superb. Take your time enjoy all of it. And do not miss some of the "Making of" features where they show you how the magic was done. A sure winner!

After stopping the video, we noticed it said subtitles. There were no subtitles in this movie. The description needs to be changed so people will not think that this is an English move. I would like my money back please. Not yet resolved by Amazon.
