A missing prince . . . a mysterious Green Lady . . . an underground world of gnomes and giants . . . and an enchantment that must be broken by three unlikely companions. This is a journey into the depths of Narnia―where magic, darkness, and deception await at every turn.

As
The Silver Chair begins, Eustace and his schoolmate Jill are running away from bullies at school, when they unexpectedly find themselves in the enchanted land of Narnia and in the very presence of the great lion Aslan. Soon they join their strange but courageous friend Puddleglum on a dangerous quest to find and rescue the heir to Narnia’s throne.

Fully dramatized and produced with cinema-quality sound design and music,
The Silver Chair is the sixth of seven audio dramas in the Focus on the Family Radio Theatre production of The Chronicles of Narnia. Hosted by Douglas Gresham, stepson of C. S. Lewis, and recorded in London, these timeless adventures are brought to life by a cast of talented actors, including award winners Paul Scofield, David Suchet, and Ron Moody.

This is a repackaged, individual title from the bestselling Radio Theatre resource The Chronicles of Narnia, which has
sold more than 950,000 copies.

CLIVE STAPLES LEWIS (1898-1963) was one of the intellectual giants of the twentieth century and arguably one of the most influential writers of his day. He was a fellow and tutor in English Literature at Oxford University until 1954 when he was unanimously elected to the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance English at Cambridge University, a position he held until his retirement. He wrote more than thirty books, allowing him to reach a vast audience, and his works continue to attract thousands of new readers every year. His most distinguished and popular accomplishments include Mere Christianity, Out of the Silent Planet, The Great Divorce, The Screwtape Letters, and the universally acknowledged classics, the Chronicles of Narnia. To date, the Narnia books have sold over 100 million copies and been transformed into three major motion pictures.

Loved this book! I have the complete set on audio read by top level British actors. Looks like the only review other than mine was from a pretty biased person:( Too bad for them! This book takes you on another Narnian adventure, this time with Eustice (the once annoying cousin in The Dawn Treader) and his classmate Jill. The journey they take is very skillfully told and CS Lewis takes you on a ride above ground and let's you explore the depths of the earth to help rescue a prince. Lewis has such a way with words that you really feel you are among friends when you read his books---and even though I let these fine Brits read to me now, I did have the entire set as a kid that I read, and now possess a newer set and am collecting some of the old editions.

Had trouble opening the audio file. The path to the file seems a bit complicated.
Didn't have any such problems with any of the other 4 audio CD books I have purchased from Amazon.

In any case, the technical problem was overcome with the help of my son-in-law without too much difficulty, and I have been enjoying the 'performance' quite a lot.

There are probably many books that are more fun listened to than read.

The picture on display was not the book that I received. I am trying to make a set for the 50th anniversary box set. It was not helpful.

"The Silver Chair" is my absolute favorite of Lewis' Narnia books. Exploring the alure of fleshly pleasures that confront us daily, the book is engaging and an exciting read. With a tightly woven plot and superb characterization, this installment of the series involves Eustace Clarence Scrubb and Jill Pole, two school children, being sent on a mission by Aslan, the Great Lion of Narnia. Eustace and Jill must go on a quest to find Narnia's lost prince Rilian, who has been missing for years. Join Eustace, Jill, and Puddleglum, (the gloomy yet stout-hearted Marsh-Wiggle), on a perilous quest filled with "Gentle Giants," delectable "Autumn Feasts," dangerous deceptions, and unforgettable self-discoveries. Things are not what they seem.

Focus On the Family Radio Theater has superbly dramatized this unforgettable novel. Sound effects and stirring music give the listener a movie-like experience that stimulates imagination. Actor Paul Scofield is a superb narrator; his charming voice reminding me of a grandfather telling a story to his grandchildren. The voice actors are nothing short of fantastic, particularly David Suchet, who portrays Aslan. His rich, deep voice throbbs with joy, love, and chastisement simultaneously. Actress Joanna Miles is quite frightening as the seductive Emerald Witch. Her voice is musical and lilting, yet also menacing as she lures the prince and children into her evil enchantment. I thoroughly recommend this excellent dramatization and urge you to give it a chance. God bless.

(Please check out my fantasy novel, Crimilia, which is available on this website. Thank you).
