Brain Train is Smart Games latest Pre School puzzle game following in the footsteps of masterpieces like Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs. Brain Train is a great addition to their other Pre School transportation themed games like Smart Car and my favorite of all Trucky 3. This puzzle is a winner! If you have a pre school child in your life who likes puzzles you can stop reading reviews and just order them Brain Train now.
Brain Train comes with three train cars and nine blocks of various shapes and colors that fit into the cars. Some of the block sets are connected by rope into chains of two or three blocks. The object of the game is to match up the shapes shown on the challenge cards to form a fully connected train. As the challenges progress less and less information is given.
Just like the other Smart Games Brain Train is very well built and should hold up well to toddler abuse. The pieces have the same great tactile feeling as in the fairy tale games and the train cars are sturdy. Little kids will likely find Brain Train very challenging. I imagine a three year old would just think it was a cool toy but it will grow with them. (My sweet mom says I could have worked through the puzzles at three with a little explanation.)
Difficulty wise I think this puzzle is on par with Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs. It is much easier than Trucky 3 which gets very challenging even for adults. My mom and I sat down and worked through the entire book of Brain Train challenges in about a half an hour. The puzzles get a little more complicated with each level and maintained our interest throughout but we were never stumped.
As I have mentioned in a couple other reviews I am a math teacher and will use this game in my high school classroom. If you are a teacher I think this is an ideal game for classroom use. I will give this puzzle to students to analyze and expand upon. There is a lot students could write about this game. I can also see using it as a basis for lots of interesting counting and probability questions.
Overall Brain Train is a fantastic puzzle and a great addition to any puzzle collection. I would love to see an expansion pack!
