Artists of the Year 2018 winners revealed

Award-winning artists announced for the 10th annual Artists of the Year competition at an exclusive drinks reception at London’s prestigious Mall Galleries

Claire Wiltsher was crowned this year’s overall winner for her beautiful oil and mixed media painting Spatial Connection 3 at the private view for the Artists of the Year 2018 exhibition on Tuesday 20 February.

First prize – Claire Wiltsher

Winner of Artists of the Year 2018, Claire Wiltsher, with her work Spatial Connection 3, oil and mixed media on canvas, 120x120cmClaire was awarded a £1,000 cash prize, supported by Cass Art, a beautiful brush bouquet and voucher from Rosemary & Co and the chance to work towards a solo exhibition with London gallery Panter & Hall.

Second prize – Peter Nelson

Peter Nelson, Eve’s Elixir, coloured pencil and fine liner pen on paper, 29x41cmSecond prize was presented to Peter Nelson for his still life Eve’s Elixir, produced in coloured pencil and fine liner. The artist took home £750 worth of art material vouchers from GreatArt.

Third prize – Lisa Graa Jensen

Lisa Graa Jensen, Common Pleasures, acrylic ink on paper, 28x28cmLisa Graa Jensen’s acrylic ink on paper Common Pleasures was awarded third prize, with the artist receiving £500 worth of art materials from STAEDTLER. Readers’ Choice Winner – Mari Tskiria

Mari Tskiria, John Dory, oil on canvas, 25x30cmMari Tskiria received the Readers’ Choice award for John Dory, receiving 678 of almost 5,000 votes cast online, and will enjoy a fantastic painting holiday with Arte Umbria.

The awards were judged by Tiffany Panter and Matthew Hall of Panter & Hall, artist Adebanji Alade and Artists & Illustrators editor Sally Hales, who said: “The event was a great opportunity to meet so many of the shortlisted artists, who had travelled with friends and family from across the country to see their artwork on the walls. All the judges were delighted with the high standard of work on display, proving that the Artists of the Year competition continues to go from strength to strength.”
