Rising Star: Paris Forino

WHAT: Elegant, contemporary interiors with worldly appeal. The decorator pairs neutral, streamlined furnishings with an unexpected element, such as bold tile, stone, or carpets underfoot. “Patterned flooring anchors a space and adds a rich texture,” says Forino, who reimagined the classic black-and-white checkerboard motif with limestone and Calacatta marble for a recent job.

WHEN: Forino settled on her career choice during a trip she took to France after graduating from high school. “Seeing the gorgeous interiors in Paris made me want to reinvent spaces other than my own bedroom,” says the decorator, who earned an interior design degree from Sydney’s University of Technology in 2000 and worked with an Australian firm before moving to New York in 2003. In Manhattan, she joined architecture and interiors firm CetraRuddy, where she remained for eight years. Forino launched her eponymous company in 2012.
