Agira is a picturesque city in the hinterland of Sicily that dominates the Salso and Simeto valleys.
It is among the oldest and most prestigious Sicilian centers: according to legend, it was founded before the Trojan War, it was inhabited since the prehistory and the first inhabited center was founded by the Sicans, the first people together with the Sicilians and helmets to be present in Sicily. The origin of its name seems to be linked to the name of one of the Sican leaders "Agiride".
Agira is a "city of art" for its rich and varied archaeological, historical and artistic heritage. Its urban fabric is an expression of the different eras that have marked its history.
Agira also offers a rich environmental heritage.
Symbol of its food and wine are the cassatelle di Agira, a crescent of shortcrust pastry filled with cocoa, chopped almonds, chickpea flour and dried lemon peel.
