Sabbioneta (IT): New FORTE CULTURA station in Italy

The fortified ideal town of Sabbioneta was built between 1554-1571 and is one of the first of its kind in Europe. It was also the first autonomous town foundation of the Renaissance. The city wall in in the shape of an irregular hexagon is completely preserved. The old towns of Sabbioneta and Mantua have been UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 2008.

In addition to the impressive fortifications of the ideal city, Sabbioneta is home to other wonderful historical buildings such as the Teatro Olimpico, the Palazzo Ducale and the Galleria degli antichi.

Mayor Marco Pasquali signed the FORTE CULTURA membership application at the end of December. Sabbioneta is now the fourth fortified ideal town on our cultural route after Dömitz, Terezín and Josefov.
