The ancient activities of the agro-silvopastoral dimension are reborn in Montegrosso. The entire town has devoted itself to the reconstruction of traditional activities. Not least that of the chestnut, a true winter survival system. The main nucleus consists of the exhibition "The Tamed Forest", hosted on the ground floor of the former elementary school building which illustrates the historical, botanical, economic aspects, uses and techniques of processing and conservation of the chestnut, also recovering tools such as the dryers used to facilitate the detachment of the chestnut skin. The visitor will be able to appreciate, in a specially built niche, the machine for beating chestnuts presented as the first example of overcoming traditional manual processing. Some explanatory panels with images and text illustrate the operation of the machine, which is occasionally activated. From here an external itinerary begins which leads first to a recently restored dryer, then to a clearing in the woods above the town where two charcoal pits have been rebuilt (one complete and one sectioned). This is the very ancient and evocative system of the woodpile, which burns for days, producing a fair quantity of coal inside. The house of the coal burner, who had to spend time next to the stack, to check its correct functioning, was also restored next door. Once upon a time all the woods of Liguria they were distinct from this traditional presence.
