while i’m good friends with the author of this novel, i’ll try to review this as fair as possible.

i was easily blown away at how well written this book is. for her first book ever written, the author nails how to write a story with an engaging story and interesting characters very professionally. another thing i was shocked by was the world-building, as i went in expecting your run of the mill fantasy world and came out surprised at what concepts were thrown in.

while i do have some issues with the book, it mainly comes off as nitpicking than anything else. however my main issue with the book is how the pacing starts to drag around the end of the novel. while i don’t want to get into spoiler territory, it feels like the story could end at 3 specific events and it would still feel conclusive. sometimes less is more, but the ending still wraps up the plot in a good way. another problem i have with the book is not the book itself, but the name. this might be a preference thing, but the title is extremely generic. if my did not write this book, i easily would’ve skipped on it. also, after reading the book, i have no idea what “revival of valda” means. “revival of kavadan” or something else would’ve been better imo. (or maybe i’m just stupid)

anyways, if you’re a fan of fantasy novels and want to get into something new, this is a pretty good book to get into! i’m pleased to say that i’m a fan of this series and will be eagerly awaiting for the sequel(s).

7/10!
