They say the red zone is the hardest place to score. But for me, those last twenty yards were my sweet spot. They didn't call me Lukas "Last Minute Lucy" Callihan for nothing. I was at the top of my game...until life sacked me harder than any linebacker ever could. Losing my mom was devastating and left me as the sole person responsible for my little sister. Taking care of Ella and juggling my career was like playing the hardest game of my life.  My only saving grace was Scarlett Knox, Ella's sexy, red-headed, no-nonsense teacher.  She loved Ella. She hated me.  She thought I sucked at this parenting thing, and she wasn’t wrong.  But whenever she was around I got the same earth-shattering, heart-stopping feeling I did when I was only twenty yards from the goal line. She made me feel like I was back in the red zone, a place I’d never fumbled. Until now.

This one is hard to rate for me. If it wasn’t because hero wasn’t celibate after meeting the heroine and heroine waiting 10 years for him to give him her most prized possession. 🤨 do I need to spell it?? 😂 I probably would’ve rated it high because he was a good son, a great brother/father figure to his sister. Yes, he wasn’t a MW but he still had sex with OP. I get why he decided not to pursued a relationship with the heroine 10 years prior, because she was a 14 year old and he was 17, he wanted her to go on dates and he felt because he was leaving town for football camp, he didn’t want to hold her down. He wanted her to experience things but of course the pathetic didn’t. She didn’t even bother dating. He was her first kiss and last, meanwhile she wasn’t his first anything. 🙄
And now authors are writing pathetic little girls/preteens. It’s not enough that authors have to drag us women thru the mud, writing us like the most pathetic creatures there is. they need to make little girls/preteens pathetic too? And why oh why you need to embarrassed the pathetic more than you already have? This one literally fell like a sack of potatoes and choked in front of the most beautiful man. 🤦🏻‍♀️
And the double standards too, her brother spent the whole book talking about women, how he can whore’d up but the pathetic can’t whore’d up (his words, not mine). Only in the end for him to be this virgin guy who was scared of the heroine’s friend chasing him for sex. It didn’t even make any sense.

Edited: Someone asked me by pm if there's OW. No, there's no OW in the book. I guess author likes to leave her books to open to interpretation. You know that hero has been seen with other girls in school and that he gives them rides in his car because Heroine mentions that. You know he's not a virgin because he knows what to do in bed. If he was a virgin he would have mentioned it, no? He never said he was with OGs, only that he paid more attention to football than girls but that still doesn't mean he's saying he stayed celibate after meeting her or during the 10 years of being apart unlike Heroine that she did say that she was a virgin and that she never even bothered dating.
I hope that clears any confusion my review caused!

DNF @ 45% - bored and annoyed. The h and H (15&18) share one kiss before he leaves for college. They both seem devastated. So devastated that she doesn’t move on in 10’years. At all. Not even a single pathetic kiss with anyone else. In TEN EFFING YEARS. They weren’t even dating in HS. No “I love you’s” were spoken. They kissed. Once. And HE was sooooo devastated that he pined away too 😢

… 👀😂 JUST KIDDING. He never once tried to see her again in all that time. Forgot her completely. And led an active sex life that you’d expect from a college and professional athlete. 😐😐

obviously they were soul mates

MAYBE I could have accepted this IF he’d actively come for her. But man.. 10 years where she’s pining after a kiss and he doesn’t even toss her a thought? Never stops in to see her on a school break? Not once?? And the only reason they rekindle their acquaintance is by a chance meeting. 😒

Nah.

A second chance Romance.
This was unexpectedly sweet and also delightful reading tinged with a little sadness at times.
More a "people" read and not truly a sports romance so don't let the sexy cover or title fool you.
My second Amie Knight read and she definitely has a talent for writing such "wonderful, warm and likable" characters.
I picked this up on a whim and was pleasantly surprised by the storyline.

Amie Knight is one of my favourite authors and I will always drop absolutely everything and read one of her masterpieces. I have been a huge fan of Amie’s ever since I first discovered her amazing ability to capture my heart with her powerful and poignant storytelling in The Line and I have been hooked on her stories ever since. The Red Zone was by no means an exception, if anything, I think this may be her best work yet, and that is saying a lot considering I love absolutely everything she has ever produced. If you are yet to discover Amie and her gift of writing, then I urge you to change that, because this is one author whose beautiful words deserve to be shared with the world.

Lukas Callihan is living his dreams and living them large. He’s playing NFL in the elite competition and is set to play in the Super Bowl and win the well deserved ring. His life couldn’t be anymore perfect, his team in Florida is having an amazing season and he has the love and support of his Mom and little sister Ella. Tragedy strikes Luk when he receives the worst phone call of his life, from his aunt. He has no option but to give up his amazing career and his super bowl ring, for a mediocre team back home in Alabama, to look after his sister who is the absolute world to him.

“I’d never give her up. I’d swim and drown. I’d jump and I’d fall. I’d try and I’d fail. But I’d just keep going. For her. Because Ella was my everything even when I felt like I had nothing.”

Scarlett Knox is a teacher of special needs students and absolutely adores her job and her students are everything to her. I could not possibly think any more highly of Scarlett, she is a genuine, sweet and caring person, who can certainly hold her own against the best of them given the right situation. One of Scarlett’s students is Ella, sister to Lukas, someone she knew from high school. Scarlett had the privilege of tutoring the star football player in French during his senior year. There is an age gap between the two, so when the school year was up Lukas moved on to bigger and better things, leaving Scarlett and their unlikely friendship behind, while taking her heart with him.

“The fourteen-year-old me wanted to chase him out of that room and beg him to be friends with me again. Anything. Because those months had been the best. Luk had been the best. Until he hadn’t.”

I absolutely loved everything about Luk and Scarlett’s relationship; while Luk may not have always felt he was doing the best job in the world caring for his sister Ella, Scarlett was there to help, guide, support Luk and pick him up where he needed it. I believe the best relationships in the world are built around mutual respect and admiration and Luk and Scarlett had that in spades. Their attraction and chemistry towards each other was palpable, electrifying and they were complete magnets for each other.

The Red Zone was just pure magic and I was addicted to this emotional, heart aching and heart healing story from start to finish. Amie Knight has once again crafted a beautifully written and engaging story that I adored, she is a true talent who writes from the heart and every beautifully written word I feel deep within. The Red Zone is a story about overcoming adversity and while you may have to give up your dreams due to the curve ball life has thrown you, another dream may begin. Fate works in mysterious ways and I believe everything happens for a reason, while tragic and sad, life can begin again with the right person by your side. I can not recommend this story enough, especially to those sports romance lovers who also adore emotional and poignant stories that have the ability to not only break your heart but also put the pieces back together again. Definitely one click this treasure.

Come direbbe Lukas "Aggiudicata" 😍

‘It was how a girl’s first kiss should be. Romantic. Devastating. Sweet.’

We absolutely love Amie Knight so we were not surprised when we fell in love with her latest story, a sweet and emotional second chance romance. The Red Zone is an addictive sports romance that has a wonderful balance of humour and the emotional after-effects of tragedy. Not only that, it has wonderful humanity and sibling love as well as the importance of friendship and love.

“I want to call dibs. So bad,” he whispered almost against my lips.
“On what?” But I knew. I knew what he was saying and it was too good to be true. And too late. Way. Too. Late.
“You.” His voice sounded as tortured as my heartfelt. “I wanna call dibs on you, Red.”

Scarlett and Lukas met in high school when quarterback Lukas, then seventeen, needed French tutoring from the lovable and nerdy fourteen-year-old, Scarlett. They forged a strong friendship with those beginning sparks of a romance. However, timing intervened as Lukas went on to embark on a professional career in football. Life has a funny way though of throwing obstacles in the path of our dreams and kicking us when we’re already one knee down. Lukas experiences tragedy for a second time in his young life and must now step up to the parenting plate of his much younger sister and leave parts of his dream behind. Almost, every cloud and all that….Lukas’ relationship with his sister, Ella was everything. He stole our hearts as did she. What a wonderful bond with an unquestionable unconditional love.

‘Everyone who’d believed in me was gone. That’s what I wanted to say, scream. But I couldn’t do that. Because I was a grown fucking man with a kid now. I couldn’t afford to be sad. I had to keep my shit together.’

The Red Zone is told through flashbacks from ten years ago and present time where Scarlett reminisces about the one boy who stole her heart and still has it, unbeknownst to him. She’s tried to move on romantically to no avail, yet has achieved her dream job as a special education teacher stemming from her love and respect for Lukas and his then baby sister, Ella. As fate would have it, Scarlett becomes Ella’s teacher and sparks fly when Lukas realises and is thrown down memory lane.

‘It was silly, almost immature how I still thought of him ten years later as the one who’d gotten away. As the one whod broken my teenage heart and stolen my first kiss.’

We loved that we got to hear both voices and experienced their deep-set love from its tender teenage stage, we felt the emotions of their struggles, joined in laughing at their banter and we became part of their world. Not only did we love Scarlett, Lukas and sweet Ella. We also fell in love with Lukas’ teammate Mason and we’re intrigued as to just what is going on between Oliver and Hazel. Amie Knight proved once again why she’s an automatic one-click for the hopeless romantics like us and YOU! We call dibs on Lukas and you can have our red skittles…..

‘There probably wasn’t anything in the world better than being unconditionally loved by Lukas Callihan.’

Valutazione positiva...aggiudicata! Proprio come direbbe Mr Quarterback, Lukas Callihan.

I know I'm in the minority right now on this, but I just didn't love this story. Didn't hate it either - I'm just feeling a little so-so about it. It started out strong, seeing the development of the friendship between Lukas and Scarlett in high school was great. And watching the bond that was there with Ella too was really wonderful to see.

But, then it started stalling a bit for me. As soon as Lukas realized who Miss Lettie was, it just seemed rushed and a bit forced. There were also a few parts of the story that I could have done without (the morning after drinking and them in their classroom), and I feel like the relationship between Lukas and Scarlett would have seemed more natural. Those particular moments to me just really seemed out of character for both of them.

One moment I did love though was when they finally kissed again after Ella's party - now that was what I had been waiting for! I also loved seeing how devoted he was to his sister, who was just a delight; and I'm glad that he finally came around with his new team (Mason definitely needs a story).

Overall, there just were more parts that I could have done without and didn't care for over those that I loved. Just an off book for me, but if there are more books in this series I'll definitely check them out.

Seriously, ALLLLLL THE STARS, ALLLLLL THE FEELINGS....This book was such a treasure!!!

Lukas and Scarlett met long time ago in high school. Scarlett was wise beyond her years even at the age of 14. She was responsible for tutoring senior football player Lukas. Knowing he was going to make it big, leaving for college still didn't stop her crush from forming. These two were PERFECT for each other. I absolutely loved their reunion with each other and him making a play on the one girl who made him feel everything, even back then.

Lukas has been dealt with so much, his mother, leaving his world and he is the sole guardian for his little sister. While he's doubting his parenting skills, he's also having trouble with his football team.
Nothing is going his way and he's just frustrated. But, Red and Luke have this undeniable chemistry that it was inevitable. Lukas will make your heart bursts for all the love he has for Ella, his sister. Oh myyyy goodnessss.....my heart just felt soooo full after reading this. 'Dibs' will always make me think of this book.

Definitely add this book to your TBR!!! I can't wait for more with the supporting characters!!!!

“What are you looking at, Mister Quarterback?”

“My Red.”

well that was just too stinking cute!🥹

description

I’m not gonna lie, the first 40% was just me being in love with Luk and finding Red adorable, they really were a sweet beautiful hot couple 🥺

tropes:
✨childhood/teenage friends
✨sports romance
✨simp H
✨second chance romance
✨H sister’s teacher

this wasn’t too complicated and had a fair share amount of realness with Ella. I loved Ella. She was a sweet girl and I’m so glad she didn’t vanished mid-story. Same with Mason!! They were constant, thank god for that.

It was a bit of a miss for me in the last chapter, if it had happened a few chapters earlier it would’ve been perfect, but it just seemed too rushed. Also, Hazel was nearly there but was supposedly Scarlett’s best friend🫣🫣 And I wanted more of Luk with his teammates :/

but other than that, I totally adored this one and had a great time. I LOOOOVED the few flashback chapters (even though it was weird Luk’s infatuation with Red then, she was a freshman… I would’ve preferred him just seeing her as a friend back then)

This was my first book my Amie and it won’t be my last!!! Loved it<3

p.s. Nelson 💀💀
p.s.2 that prologue started this strongggg

This is a fun, sweet standalone sports romance with a touch of second-chance-romance

Lukas was living the dream as an NFL player with a promising career ahead of him. But his world fell apart when his beloved mother died and he returned to his home town so that he could care for his special needs sister, Ella. He has so much love for his sister, but is struggling to adjust to playing for a local, not so successful team, and with the responsibilities of caring for a teenager while they’re both still grieving their mother. And now he is being hounded by Ella’s teacher who wants to meet with him, which is just what he doesn’t need… until he learns that her teacher is his old high school crush.

Luk and Scarlett met in high school when she tutored him in French. They developed a friendship and both had feelings for each other, but he was 17 and she was only 14, so the only thing that ever happened between them was a kiss right before he left for College. Scarlett’s heart was broken when she had no further contact with Luk, and she’s been holding a grudge ever since. So when the cocky football star shows up in her classroom, she has zero tolerance for his good looks and smooth flirtiness. But With nobody else in town to turn to, Luk begins to open up Scarlett, showing his vulnerability and proving that he is still the same person that she fell for all of those years ago, and their dynamic begins to shift.

“It’s sad. Isn’t it. That I’m all she has left. Just me, fucking up everything.”

His baby sister had hit the jackpot with his one. Because as far as I could figure, there probably wasn’t anything in the world better than being unconditionally loved by Lukas Callihan.

They become friends again, and Scarlett is there to help Luk through the difficulties of his situation. But Luk never forgot about Scarlett, and now that she’s all grown up he wants her, and he holds nothing back in letting her know just how much.

“I’m home now. And fate would have it that you’re here, too. And I’m done with this friend bullshit, Red. I’m dong pretending I don’t want you. I’m done making excuses to see you. And I sure don’t give a shit that you’re Ella’s teacher. I want you and I’m done fucking around.”

But Scarlett has had her heart broken by Luk once before, and she has no intention of opening herself up to that kind of pain again. Plus, her inexperience with all things relationships means she’s terrified of Luk and all that he wants from her. He has a battle on his hands to win her over, and it’s a fun and flirtatious ride as we watch him fight for the girl he wants.

I was tearing down walls and feeling damn good about it. I had a feeling I was pretty close to getting a kiss, too. I’d never been this excited for a simple kiss, but I guess that was what happened when the woman you were falling for all over again withheld something you really fucking wanted. And I wanted her kiss like I wanted my next breath.

This is a really cute set-up, and I really enjoyed the changing dynamic between Luk and Scarlett as they became a part of each other’s lives again. We get to see glimpses of their past which were really sweet, and helps create the chemistry between them in the present. The sexual tension builds well, and I loved watching them fall for each other all over again.

I could still feel it, though. That inevitable pull between Luk and me. It had always been there, the undercurrent of us being something more. And now was no exception. It was there whether I liked it or not. Just like always.

The relationship feels like a bit of a slow burn, and it takes a while for Scarlett to come around, but things move pretty quickly from there, and the love story is gorgeous.

“I’m calling dibs, Scarlett.”

There is a great bunch of side characters who contribute to the story. Ella, of course, is a fantastic scene stealer, and Luk and Scarlett’s friends are fantastically entertaining. I’m wondering (hoping) that there will be a story for them moving forward.

The story ends well with an epilogue that finishes everything off beautifully, and I loved seeing Luk and Scarlett get their HEA.

Such a cute read – 3.5 stars.

After reading and loving Amie Knight’s Stars Duet, I knew I needed more of the author’s work. The Stars Duet blew my mind, and I was eager for more. Although I have a couple of the author’s backlist on my Kindle, The Red Zone was the one I jumped into first. After reading and loving The Red Zone, I’m even more desperate to go back and read everything the author has previously written. In other words, it seems I’ve become quite the Amie Knight fan.

I’m going to be honest and say I went into The Red Zone expecting a very different kind of story to what I was given. I do not mean this in a bad way, however. I mean this in a good way, a very good way. The book surprised me in the best way possible and I happily devoured it in a single sitting. Once I started I could not put it down, as the story gripped me so hard.

Although The Red Zone is a romance, it’s so much more than that. It’s a story of life, of the way we deal with the curveballs thrown our way. It’s a story of how we’re connected, of how we can help each other. It does all this without sounding preachy, whilst making you both smile with laughter and cry from the heartbreak. It’s a story that tugs at your emotions, giving something more than your standard second chance love story.

With wonderful characters and an equally wonderful storyline, the book grips you throughout. I could write so much about all the wonderful things touched upon in this story, but I have no wish to ruin the impact. Just know, it’s a story that does more than you expect it to.

Without a doubt, The Red Zone was a wonderful read.

5 Star review of The Red Zone by Amie Knight

Amie Knight is a new author to me and I have no idea why that is.

Where do I start? This was a beautifully written second chance at love story that was at times an emotional roller coaster of a read.

Scarlett Taylor Knox, aka Ms Lettie, teaches special needs students. One of her students Ella is the younger sister of Lukas Callihan, someone Scarlett knew when she was a teenager.

I really liked Scarlett, she was feisty, caring and a woman I could see as a friend. Lukas was swoon worthy and the chemistry between them was electric.

There was humour and some fun moments that enhanced the story, particularly with Ella who is a great character.

I adored the relationship between Lukas and Ella when he becomes her guardian. You could feel his anxiety as he struggles to care for Ella. Mason as a secondary character was great and I would love for him to have his own book.

The situations and feelings were realistic and I was totally invested in the story that Ms. Knight wove.

When time permits I will be looking for more books from Amie Knight.

OMG! Amie Knight is a new writer so I didn’t know what to expect from this story. I had heard great things about it from other readers so my expectations were a little high. But the last thing that I expected was that this story would be so sweet, emotional and funny all at the same time! It really made me feel a lot of things throughout the story but it was always in a light, never dark way. How the writer did it, I don’t know but she played with my emotions in every chapter and I loved every minute of it!

The story was told in both POV’s and I loved the fact that the writer shared with us how young Scarlett and young Lukas met. The beginning of their friendship (and the end). That gave us more information about their past and their feelings now. And another thing that I loved about this story is that Lukas may be a quarterback but he was no playboy!!! His whole focus was on his little sister Ella, (his mother in the past) and football. I loved that about him. He was so sweet and sensitive but still strong (more beta than alpha). He was just the perfect brother and boyfriend. And Scarlett, she’s a wonderful character too! I loved her feisty character, her clumsiness and her big and kind heart. Scarlett and Lukas were really a fantastic pair.
And then you have Ella, special and unique Ella. She has down syndrome and the writer really showed us the many sides of it.

I’m so, so happy that I decided to read this story and I will certainly read more books from this writer.

I really enjoyed this.
Luk was super swoony.
I wish that there had been a little bit more in the ending. I didn’t think that there was enough of them actually together as a “couple.”
But it was good nonetheless. :)

When she was fourteen, Scarlett Knox tutored the star of the football team, Lukas Callihan, in French. Despite their four year age difference, a friendship developed, only for Luk to leave at the end of his senior year, taking Scarlett's heart with him. Ten years later, he's back home, taking a trade to a lower ranked NFL team to become the guardian to his special needs sister, Ella, when their mother dies unexpectedly. Now, playing football is only a job. His sister is his top priority, but he feels like he's failing at caring for her.

This author is one I can always count on to infuse her stories with a huge dose of heart, and she certainly delivered with The Red Zone! Not only are Luk's struggles and feelings of inadequacy in caring for Ella authentic and endearing, but Scarlett's need to protect her heart is believable and completely understandable. The dips and turns of their getting-reacquainted dance are delightfully entertaining, cementing my interest and ensuring my heart was 100% invested in their story. But with all of her carefulness and prickliness towards Luk in the first part of the story, Scarlett is a wonderful support and encouragement to him when he really needs it. As much as she tries to protect her heart, it’s hard to protect something she gave away years ago. Luk and Scarlett are amazing together in every way, and they may just be my new favorite rom-com couple!

Then there’s Ella, as well as Luk's teammate, which I can’t help but comment on. Kudos to Ms. Knight for creating a special needs teenager, because Ella is sassy, funny, adorable and larger than life, and her character provides some fantastic humorous scenes. Mason also bears mentioning because he's so terrific with Ella – sweet and gentle but pretty much a big kid with her (okay, and with everybody else). Luk doesn’t have an easy time integrating into his new team, not that he puts any effort into getting to know the guys. But Mason is just stubborn enough that he won't be put off, and he charges his way into Luk and Ella’s life, making himself right at home. And largely due to Mason’s stubbornness, Luk realizes he's not quite as alone in the world as he thought, and he has more family than he realized.

This is a sweet, poignant, feel-good, second chance romance with the perfect balance of heart, heat and humor. I fell toes over nose for all of these characters and can’t wait to read more! (Please tell me Mason gets his story after Scarlett's brother, Ms. Knight!) If you like a sports romance with characters that are perfectly flawed with hearts of gold, and one that will squeeze your heart while making you laugh, you’ll love Luk and Scarlett's story!

I think, no I know that The Red Zone just moved up to my favorite book of 2019. This book is packed full of emotions, laugh out loud moments and a love that will grab your heart!

Lukas Callihan is at the top of his game until he gets heartbreaking news. With no choice he heads back home to care for Ella, his sister. What he wasn’t expecting was the one girl from high school that had tied him up in knots. 10 years later these two have a love of Ella and once they meet again the sparks fly and a true love is born.

Scarlett Nelson is loving her job as a special needs teacher. She always knew she wanted to teach and when a special guy and girl were in her life she knew exactly what she wanted. Her first love was three years older than her and she honestly didn’t think he reciprocated the feelings. One kiss, her first, left her with a broken heart.

Now that these two are back in the same town and that Ella is their special connection, we watch as these two navigate their lives. We watch as Scarlett holds her heart back until she knows for sure that Lukas is definitely what he says.

This story will have you laughing out loud, you will be rooting for them the whole time and you will cry tears of joy! Highly recommended.

I call dibs on The Red Zone!!

*I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author in exchange for my honest and voluntary review. All thoughts and opinions are those of my own.*

It took me some time to decide on a rating for this book. I was so unsure. I feel bad for admitting that I didn’t enjoy this as much as other readers. This book started off great then around half way, it just started going downhill for me.

Scarlett has had an insane crush on Lukas for almost half her lifetime. She was a gangly nerd who became his tutor and they formed a friendship but Scarlett’s teenage heart used to go crazy every time she was near him. Fast forward ten years, Scarlett is a teacher for children with special needs and Lukas sister who has Down Syndrome is one of her students. Lukas is a football player who is crushing it at the moment but he has to drop everything and be at his sisters side because he has just became her only family.
Lukas is pleasantly surprised when he finds out his sister’s teacher is non other than the fiery redhead who made such a huge impact in his life in high school. Scarlett tries to keep her distance but Luk is not having any of that. He will try his all to get his Red.

I didn’t like Scarlett all. She held out hope for a guy she didn’t know if she will ever see again. I didn’t like the way she was around him. He didn’t contact her at all in those ten years which is a hell of a long time. I didn’t trust his feelings for her.
