Report explains why West Brom discarded Giuliano Terraneo after just two months

Giuliano Terraneo was expected to be a key player in West Bromwich Albion’s recruitment as they prepared for life back in the Championship.

With relegation from the Premier League looking inevitable back in April, West Bromwich Albion were shaking things up behind the scenes after accepting mediocrity and poor management for far too long.

And the experienced recruitment chief Giuliano Terraneo was expected to play a major role in The Baggies’ attempted revival.

He was appointed as a technical consultant on a six-month contract after Nicky Hammond, who had come under fire from many supporters for a series of underwhelming signings, was shown the door.

But, just two months after his arrival, Terraneo was gone. And latest reports from the Birmingham Mail explain why things didn’t work out for the former Lazio, Inter Milan and Fenerbahce consultant at The Hawthorns.

It is claimed that the club had reservations about Terraneo’s transfer targets. At the start of the summer, West Brom were linked with a whole host of players based in Turkey, where Terraneo had spent time at Fenerbahce.

The report adds that Terraneo had annoyed rival clubs and angered a number of West Brom fans with his approach to negotiations. The 64-year-old former goalkeeper, it seemed, was a divisive influence and simply had to go.

This has left chief executive Mark Jenkins in need of a new technical director. The Birmingham Mail claims that West Brom want a man with a record of unearthing hidden gems and a number of interviews are being held this week.
