The Fiumara d'Arte is a real open-air museum consisting of 12 installations by contemporary artists and distributed along the banks of the Tusa river which flows into the Tyrrhenian coast and which once flowed between the Nebrodi mountains with a 21 km bed. Placed in different countries in the exquisite province of Messina, the sculptures ideally trace the course of the river with the aim of enhancing the area through contemporary art. An excellent fusion of nature and art, highly coveted by national and international tourism, which you cannot ignore during your journey to discover the places of Sicily. And why not have one of our sensational luxury villas located in the beautiful eastern Sicily as a starting point for your daily excursions and walks?

Fiumara d'Arte was born in 1982 when Antonio Presti commissioned the first work from Pietro Consagra, in honor of his father, which was inaugurated in 1986 with the name of Matter might not be there: a sort of complex line that develops on two floors , one white and one black. Thus the largest project comes to life, a sculpture park that acts as a connector between contemporary language and the rural beauty of the landscapes. The second sculpture was inaugurated in 1988, by the sculptor Paolo Schiavocampo and entitled A curve thrown behind time, a real curve surrounded by olive trees and broom bushes. 1989 was the year of the Monument to a Dead Poet, renamed by the locals as a Window on the Sea due to its shape and position. It is no coincidence that Tano Festa's work is blue in color like the two elements that surround it: the sky and the sea.

Between 1989 and 2020, the other 9 sculptures were created and installed by the hand of national and international artists, among which we must absolutely mention:

  • Room of a golden boat by Hidetoshi Nagasawa
  • Mediterranean Energy by Antonio Di Palma
  • Arianna's Labyrinth by Italo Lanfredini
  • Arethusa by Piero Dorazio and Graziano Marini
An artistic journey not to be missed in complete harmony with nature despite the fact that for years the works have been accused of being illegal and threatened to be dismantled but finally, after years and years of judicial cases, the Fiumara d'Arte has been recognized for what it really is: a phenomenal tourist-cultural route, one of the largest sculpture parks in Europe. And you will find it in Sicily where tourism is much more than sun and sea: it is art, it is history, it is nature.
