Turtles All The Way Down, adapted from John Green’s best-selling novel, is finally coming to UK TV screens this month.
John Green’s book The Fault In Our Stars and its film adaptation was a huge teen phenomenon and, in all honesty, it broke my heart too at the ripe age of 23. Green’s other books, Paper Towns and Looking For Alaska have also since been adapted for screens big and small.
The latest adaptation is Turtles All The Way Down, which has just premiered on Max in the US. So far, there hasn’t been a UK release date for the film, but we’ve just received some good news in our inbox. The film, directed by Hannah Marks, will be released on Sky Cinema on the 26th May.
Here’s a synopsis: It’s not easy being Aza, but she’s trying…trying to be a good daughter,...

Director Fede Álvarez’s contribution to the Alien franchise, Alien: Romulus, is set to reach theatres on August 16th (you can watch the teaser Here), and we have previously seen a picture of a Xenomorph from the film – in fact, that’s the image featured above this paragraph. Now USA Today has shared another image of an Alien: Romulus Xenomorph, and you can check that one out at the bottom of this article. It has been said that Álvarez was dedicated to using practical effects on this film (we’ve even seen him playing with a remote controlled Facehugger), so it’s nice to see glimpses of these creatures that actually existed on the set.
When this project was announced near the start of 2022, it was said that Álvarez pitched the idea to Ridley Scott years ago and it stuck with Scott. So in late 2021, he called Álvarez and asked...

A new image from Fede Alvarez's Alien: Romulus has been released (via USA Today), and it gives us another look at one of the movie's Xenomorphs as it bares its terrifying metallic teeth
A few subtle changes aside, the titular creature has pretty much remained the same since it first debuted in Ridley Scott's original classic, and it doesn't look like Romulus is going to alter the design to any great extent.
Check out the new image below, along with a recent video clip of one of the movie's practical Facehuggers.

After the success of Evil Dead Rise, there are no fewer than two more sequels in the works. More on those plans here:
It’s not easy taking a beloved horror franchise and making a new instalment that can fit into its timeline, honour the original and still be its own film. Many have tried, many have failed.
Lee Cronin hit the perfect balance with 2023’s Evil Dead Rise, which was a satisfyingly crunchy, gory sequel. We reported earlier this year that, thanks to the success of Cronin’s film, we would be getting a new spin-off set in the world of Evil Dead. Sébastien Vaniček, who directed the spider-horror Infested, will be directing this one.
Now, Deadline reports that there’s also another instalment in the works. Francis Galluppi is on directing duties for the still-unnamed film and will also pen the script, which will hopefully include a Deadite or two.

VR specialists Survios has announced Alien: Rogue Incursion, a first-person, single-player “frightfully immersive” videogame.
The Alien franchise celebrates its 45th anniversary on the 25th May, and there’s already a xenomorph-flavoured sequel – August’s Alien: Romulus – planned to help celebrate.
We’ve also learned there’s a new videogame based on the series in the works. Called Alien: Rogue Incursion, it’s billed as the first virtual reality outing for the Alien – which means, of course, you’ll need one of those fancy VR helmets to play it.
In development at Survios – which previously made the likes of The Walking Dead Onslaught and Puzzle Bobble VR, a game we didn’t realise existed until now – Alien: Rogue Incursion is billed as a single-player action-horror created in Unreal Engine.
Its announcement was accompanied by a teaser video which shows us… nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Any prequel to the Alien series would face a challenge. If we forget for a moment that Alien 3 ever happened, the first two films in the series were absolute classics. They are as influential today as they were when they were first released in 1979 and 1986, respectively.
The main problem with 2017's Alien: Covenant was a departure from what made those two movies so good.
Too much tech, not enough tension
Alien and Aliens are big movies that benefited from an almost B-movie feel. Of course, filmmaking was very different when Ridley Scott's directing career was in its infancy, but you get the sense that he wasn't just working within constraints – he really understood his craft.
Alien: Covenant embraced CGI to such an extent that it often felt like it was so far removed from the originals that it was a different franchise. You certainly wouldn't have guessed that...

Who says this summer is light on blockbuster fare, despite the strikes holding productions and release dates up?
Big movies coming to theaters in the next hot few months include favorite IP getting a 2024 burnish, from “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” to “Alien: Romulus” and “Twisters”. Oh, and a little movie called “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” (May 24), which George Miller will first bring to the Cannes Film Festival before opening it in theaters later that month. Plus, poised to be a Netflix hit this summer is Richard Linklater’s “Hit Man” (May 24 in theaters), playing for a couple of weeks in select cities before the crime comedy starring Glen Powell hits the streaming platform.
But those bigger-ticket titles aside, summer 2024 is a time for indies to shine, from Annie Baker’s long-awaited festival hit “Janet Planet” (June 14) to India Donaldson’s wonderful Sundance premiere “Good One” (August...

Last month, 20th Century Studios unveiled a teaser trailer for Alien: Romulus, director Fede Álvarez’s contribution to the Alien franchise that is set to reach theatres on August 16th. (You can watch the teaser Here.) With the release date still four months away, it might be a little while before we see a full trailer – but while we wait for that to come along, star Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla) is building the hype by promising that the film will deliver everything fans want to see.
Spaeny told CinePOP, “I don’t think I can say much, but I already delivered something, so I’ll just repeat it. It takes place between Alien and Aliens, in terms of plot and chronology. But we have an incredible cast, some new faces. The Facehuggers are there. You will get everything you want from the film. Fede Alvarez is an incredible director who has...

Of all the movies I saw teased at this year’s CinemaCon, the one that had distributors the most psyched was no doubt Deadpool and Wolverine. Many are thinking this will be Marvel’s first big hit since Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, and last week, when I polled readers about which CinemaCon film they were most excited about, it was the clear winner. By a landslide actually, as it earned 40% of the vote compared to the runner-up, Alien: Romulus, which earned 13.47%.
And now, with the film only a few months away from hitting theatres, Disney has finally released a brand-new trailer which gives fans their first look at the yellow-suited Wolverine in action. This is actually a different trailer than the one I saw at CinemaCon (along with ten minutes of the movie which you can read about here), and it’s pretty awesome. It gives us a...

Since 1980, horror and sci fi fans have loved being scared by the Xenomorph and the soulless Weyland-Yutani corporation that wants to study it. Nearly everyone has controversial takes on various films in the franchise: "Prometheus" and Assembly Cut "Alien 3" fans, rise up. "Alien: Covenant" fans, look... we respect you, but that movie makes it tough. But no matter where you land, we're all in love with Ridley Scott's original "Alien." It's a love that's seen high school performances turn into breakout hits, and April 26th (chosen for the Lv-426 colony in "Aliens") become a fandom holiday.
We're always looking for more to explore from the franchise, although sometimes that desire turns into a be-careful-what-you-wish-for "Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem" situation. Despite the valleys of the "Alien" franchise, we're still hoping for the best from the upcoming "Alien: Romulus" and Noah Hawley's forthcoming TV series from FX. Meanwhile, we...

At its core, the Alien franchise is easy to understand: people meet aliens, bad things happen. It’s a lot harder to keep track of when exactly these things occur.
Alien takes place in 2122, Aliens 57 years later, and then Alien 3 happens shortly afterwards. But then things get weird. Alien Resurrection jumps ahead 202 years, Prometheus begins sometime in prehistory and then in 2093, and Alien: Covenant is in 2104. Alien: Romulus will squeeze in between the first two movies, around 2142, which is 20 years after the original. And that’s not even going through the Alien vs Predator flicks or the countless games, books, and comics.
Then there’s the new Alien TV series coming from creator Noah Hawley, best known for the Fargo show and Legion. Deadline has confirmed the movie takes place about 30 years before the events of Alien, or as FX chief John Landgraf put it to THR, “near the...

It’s a good time to be an “Alien” fan. With Fede Álvarez‘s new franchise installment “Alien: Romulus” hitting theaters on August 16, and Noah Hawley‘s TV series for FX on the way next year, a franchise once thought dead is on the cusp of a potentially huge revival. Alvarez’s film already has Ridley Scott‘s and James Cameron‘s respective blessings, but Hawley’s series remains a bit of a mystery.

While you wait for Alien: Romulus, the folks over at Devilworks have cooked up their own slice of “mockbuster” fun with Alien Hunt, and we’re debuting the trailer here on Bd this morning.
This brand-new sci-fi horror from director Aaron Mirtes is set for its US premiere on May 14, and you can find it on digital thanks to Devilworks.
You can exclusively watch the official trailer for Alien Hunt below, which looks to combine elements of Alien and Predator. This particular “mockbuster” has very little interest in hiding its inspirations, with the alien designs plucked straight out of H.R. Giger’s beautiful brain. Hey, if you’re going to pull from other movies, might as well take from the all-time greats!

The Alien franchise is set to continue on the small screen with an “FX on Hulu” TV series from Fargo creator Noah Hawley, a show that began filming last year, then had to halt production after a month due to the actors strike. There’s a lot going on in the world of Alien at the moment. The original classic is returning to theaters, for starters, and the Xenomorphs will be fighting Marvel’s superheroes in the upcoming mashup comic Aliens vs. Avengers. Of course, the main event for 2024 is Fede Alvarez’s Alien: Romulus, a brand new big screen movie set between Alien and Aliens!
With so much going on, you’d be forgiven for forgetting that Disney is also working on an “Alien” television series, in the works for FX from creator Noah Hawley (“Legion”).
The Alien franchise’s first ever television series is likely to arrive sometime in 2025, set to be the first story in the franchise that takes place on Earth, roughly 70 years in the future.
FX teases, “Expect a scary thrill ride set not too far in the future here on Earth.”

Back in 1979, director Ridley Scott was mostly unknown outside the realm of commercials, though that would quickly change with his second feature, “Alien.” At the time, those who got to see the movie probably didn’t realize they were watching a movie that would forever change horror and science fiction, as the movie introduced a number of deadly creatures, including the lethal alien of the title that would one day be relabelled, “xenomorph.”
45 years later, 20th Century is re-releasing the sci-fi/horror movie back into theaters for a limited time on April 26, dubbed “Alien Day,” as it will include limited edition posters and other special tie-in collectibles. This may have been prompted by the upcoming August release of filmmaker Fede (“Don’t Breathe”) Alvarez‘s “Alien: Romulus,” giving parent company Disney a doubly good reason to release the original movie back into theaters. No matter how many lackluster sequels and spinoffs pile up, nothing will ever diminish the impact of the original 1979 Alien — one of the finest films ever made. It changed everything about how science fiction and horror films were shot. It brought the genre out of the realm of cheesiness and campiness and produced a vision of terror that felt Real. For those who have always wanted to dare to see the original Xenomorph up close, another chance is coming soon. 20th Century Studios has announced a new theatrical run this April 26 (Alien Day) in honor of the franchise’s 45th anniversary and to drum up hype for the coming sequel Alien: Romulus in August. The re-screening will include a special featurette about both Alien and Romulus including a conversation between the directors of the two films. "In space no one can hear you scream." Don't miss this. 20th Century Studios has confirmed a re-release of the classic original Alien movie in theaters next week. Ridley Scott's Alien from 1979 will be playing again on the big screen starting April 26th - which is 4/26, also known as "Alien Day" because the planet from this original movie (and the Aliens sequel) is known as "Lv-426". This sci-fi all-timer has been showing in theaters multiple times since it first opened some 45 years ago, and still holds up. The theatrical experience watching this is still as exhilarating as ever! Take your friends and go enjoy this classic! Alien stars Tom Skerritt, Sigourney Weaver, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt, Ian Holm, and Yaphet Kotto. This is a re-release from 20th/Disney but it's also a bit of a promotion to get people excited about the upcoming Alien: Romulus standalone movie from Fede Alvarez.

Nicole Kidman has reigned supreme at movie theaters since 2021, when she and AMC revealed an instantly meme-able spot for “We Make Movies Better,” which urged consumers to return to theaters in the wake of the devastating coronavirus pandemic.
Now, another topic of utmost concern to exhibitors might be getting some high-wattage star treatment: those darn people who won’t silence their cellphones when a movie is playing.
Last week, Marvel and Disney screened a spot that certainly felt like an in-theater PSA of sorts as part of its Deadpool & Wolverine presentation at CinemaCon.
The spot began with Deadpool telling Wolverine about his theories for Secret Wars, a reference to Marvel Studios’ upcoming crossover movie, Avengers: Secret Wars. But every time Deadpool began to say what he’d heard will happen in the movie, a cellphone rang and interrupted him.

Over the years there have been several entries into the sci-fi genre touching upon the concept of extra-terrestrial life. Yet Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic, Alien remains one of the best movies ever made in the genre. A movie that puts the audience on the edge of their seats from start to end, it is a masterclass in suspense, tension, and terror.

After the surprise success of District 9 in 2009, Neill Blomkamp was the new darling of the film industry. The original, intriguing, and thrilling film about aliens stranded on Earth came From the fallout of a failed attempt to get a movie based on the Halo videogame franchise off the ground. The film was nominated for 4 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, legitimizing Blomkamp as an innovative storyteller.
Blomkamp leveraged the success of District 9 to land a much larger budget for his next effort, 2013’s classism sci-fi Elysium. It was met with moderate critical and commercial success. Four months. We’re now just four months away from the return of the Alien franchise with brand new movie Alien: Romulus, wherein director Fede Alvarez will put his own personal stamp on the terrifying sci-fi saga. Disney presented some new footage at CinemaCon last night, though the footage unfortunately isn’t available online.
That being said, we do at least have some footage descriptions from various outlets that were in attendance at CinemaCon. And there’s a common thread in the many descriptions that we’ve been reading. As promised by Alvarez, Alien: Romulus is a practical effects-heavy affair!
Collider’s Steven Weintraub tweets, for starters, “The Alien: Romulus [CinemaCon] scenes are brutal and scary and exactly what I wanted. The practical effects and sets looked great.”
That Hashtag Show’s Hunter Bolding tweets, “Alien: Romulus, from the small amount of footage we were shown, looks like a return to Alien being horrifying.

The creatures in Alien: Romulus have been brought to life with puppets, animatronics and other practical ways according to reports of its preview footage.
The first trailer for Fede Alvarez’s upcoming Alien: Romulus shows how heavily it draws on the imagery of 1979’s Alien, from the design of its ship interiors to its lighting and sound effects. Another aspect it’ll share with Ridley Scott’s classic, seemingly, is a heavy use of practical effects to bring its title monster – in its various forms – to life.
At CinemaCon, the convention for theatre chains which took place over the past few days in Las Vegas, Disney showed off a few minutes of Romulus preview footage to attendees. Among the attendees was Discussing Film, whose description of the footage suggests that Alvarez and his team have indeed used a mixture of puppetry and animatronics for its xenomorph effects.

The venerable “Alien” franchise has nearly 10 films under its belt and, somehow, every time a space crew member’s chest bursts open and a horrifying little creature crawls out we’re still terrified.
Such was the case on Thursday at CinemaCon, the annual convention of movie theater owners in Las Vegas, where Disney showed off an extended look at its latest entry “Alien: Romulus.” Directed by Fede Álvarez, the movie follows a group of solar explorers who stumble on an abandoned space station. Guess what’s on board?
Cailee Spaeny leads a next-gen cast of unfortunate souls that must contend with creatures with fun names like facehuggers and Xenomorphs. An extended trailer shows the team navigating dilapidated terrain as tensions escalate, bodies pile up, bones crack and blood starts to spill.

Director Fede Álvarez (2013's "Evil Dead") is looking to revitalize the "Alien" franchise with his new film: "Alien: Romulus." No, "Romulus" isn't hinting at a "Star Trek" crossover, but it does feature rising stars like Cailee Spaeney ("Priscilla") and Isabella Merced (2025's "Superman").
After the mood-setting first trailer for "Alien: Romulus" and some positive buzz (including recruiting the effects team from "Aliens" who built the Xenomorph Queen), /Film's Ryan Scott caught another glimpse of "Romulus" at CinemaCon during the presentation by 20th Century Studios' parent company, Disney.
Set between the events of 1979's "Alien" and 1986's "Aliens," the film features its young stars dodging aliens — from facehuggers to Xenomorphs — on an otherwise empty space station (I wouldn't guess it's "abandoned" since there could be other reasons why there are no humans on board). How will "Romulus" stand out next to the previous film in the franchise, 2017's "Alien: Covenant," or indeed the original film?...

However, there are only so many times that NATO, the MPA, and the studios can say “movie theaters are back!” without sounding like Chicken Little.
The reality is 2024 will be lucky to match the levels of last year, and 2025 has its own challenges if the industry faces another round of strikes. Even so, Adam Aron’s hundreds of soldier-owners from his AMC army will be looking to him for reassurance at the world’s biggest exhibition pep rally.

Cinema owners, studios and indie distributors gathering in Las Vegas this week for exhibition’s biggest confab seek visibility into a theatrical landscape gut-punched by Hollywood strikes last year just as a post-Covid recovery was revving up. Production halted for months led to fewer releases on the schedule.
But there’s reason for optimism, from Dune 2 and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire to a tentpole-laden slate with clips and peeks eagerly awaited by the CinemaCon crowd. Amazon and Apple and studio parents recognize the value of an exclusive theatrical release — a realization that wasn’t at all a given post-pandemic.
National Association of Theatre Owners president and CEO Michael O’Leary and Charles Rivkin, chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association, talked with Deadline on the state of the industry as CinemaCon kicks off and ahead of their keynotes Tuesday.
The interviews were edited and condensed for clarity.

In 1979, Ridley Scott unleashed the science fiction classic "Alien" upon audiences and unwittingly kickstarted a lucrative franchise comprised of seven sequels and an assortment of books, comics, and video games. In August 2024, Fede Álvarez plans to release "Alien: Romulus," which will hopefully push the series in a creative new direction, delivering more Xenomorph horror action for audiences to enjoy.
The "Alien" franchise has amassed $1.6 billion at the global box office, despite more than a few bumps. Films such as David Fincher's "Alien 3" and Scott's own "Prometheus" and "Alien: Covenant" divided audiences with their strange methodology. In contrast, the "Alien vs Predator" films never amounted to more than cynical cash grabs. These sequels/prequels also retconned important lore or added new details to the Xenomorph that do not jibe with previously established material, leaving fans scrambling to make sense of the "Alien" timeline. Some of their theories are perfectly acceptable,...
