Dune II - The Maker - An open source remake of Westwood's hit Strategy classic gets a big update

Dune II was one of the best RTS games ever released, an all time classic developed by one of the greatest developers Westwood, which was released for the Amiga, MS-DOS and even the Sega Megadrive. Well if you remember this fine game and want to relive some of that nostalgia, then we have recently been contacted through twitter, that you can now download the latest version of Dune II - The Maker: An open source remake of the classic Dune II with many improvements and changes which has reached version 0.7.0 after many months of development.

Wonderboy III - Monster Lair (AGA) may be in the works for the Amiga after Wonderboy 1200 is done!

We've featured Wonderboy many times now on Indie Retro News, from the modern remake of Wonderboy The Dragons Trap, to the Amiga versions of Wonderboy in Monster Land SE, and the upcoming Wonderboy 1200; An Arcade game from 1986 as an unofficial Amiga port by Acidbottle. Well here we are with another Wonderboy story, as Earok recently contacted us, to let us know that Acidbottle may also start on a project to bring Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair over to the Amiga 1200 using the Scorpion Engine. Although he does state this might happen when the Wonderboy 1200 port is done!

Akumajou Dracula AGA - The upcoming Castlevania for the Amiga still looks mighty impressive in this new footage

We've certainly played our fare share of Castlevania inspired games over the years, especially the most impressive Castlevania Spectral Interlude, which we had the pleasure of playing on the ZX Spectrum which was created by Sanchez. But today news, thanks to another heads up by the creator, we've been shown some brand new footage of the upcoming Castlevania game 'Akumajou Dracula AGA'; An in development AGA Amiga version which is in the works by Dante Retro Dev!

The Maze of Galious as an enhanced version for the MSX2 is spectacular!

If you remember the 1987 MSX game of The Maze of Galious, then you might like this news story that has just reached our inbox. As we've recently been informed by a good friend of ours on Twitter, that Victor Martinez, David Madurga, Toni Galvez and team have released the latest update to their previously released enhanced MSX2 version of The Maze of Galious. To coincide with this news, not only can you view the latest compared screenshots below, but the game is playable online through a browser via The File Hunter.

Ms Nampac - Another Ms Pacman clone appears but this time it's for the ZX Spectrum by Jordi and team

It wasn't long ago now that here on Indie Retro News, we did multiple features of both the hit classic's Pac-Man and Ms Pacman over to the Amiga by JOTD as two great Arcade conversions. Well here we are with another Ms Pacman game, but this time thanks to Saberman contacting us, we have been told that Jordi with music by Pope and graphics by Jarlaxe have released the tribute clone of Ms Nampac over to the ZX Spectrum as an early work in progress build!

JITNOG - Judge those that have sinned in this rather unique C64 game!

Another C64 game has appeared and rather than the usual platformers we've come across, this one requires only the skill of a Judge to punish those that have sinned . Titled as ' JITNOG ', this new game developed by frodewin, Logiker, DeMOSic and neyvivi, is a game in which playing as the Judge In The Name Of God, you must follow a set of rules and punish those have committed crimes while doing all of this in a limited amount of time. Yes it sounds rather odd but watch the video below and you'll get an idea of how to play :)

A Pig Quest - Eagerly awaited C64 game by Antonio Savona and team gets a tease

We've posted a lot of C64 games on Indie Retro News , and some of them we regard as highly recommended in anyone's collection, Sam's Journey and L'abbaye des morts are just some of the great examples. Well one game I'm really excited for and I think many will agree with, is this fabulous looking C64 platformer called 'A Pig Quest'; an upcoming game published via RGCD which has yet again been teased but this time with multiple GIF's from Antonio Savona!

Flappadiddle - This Amiga game is a bit of a Flappybird, Joust mix and it's fun!

Prepare for all out fun especially if you have a Commodore Amiga at hand, as we've recently been informed via our good friend Saberman, that if you're looking for a challenging yet fun game to play through this week, then make sure to play Jayenkai's latest Amiga game of 'Flappadiddle'; A game which some are saying is a Flappy Bird Joust mix with a silly yet jovial soundtrack. To coincide with this news, Saberman has also done a gameplay video which can be viewed below.

'L'abbaye Des Morts' for the Atari Falcon is now available for pre-order!

If you've been following Indie Retro News through these last few years, you would've known about Locomalito's awesome retro styled platformer 'L'Abbaye des Morts'; a game which not only appeared on the PC, but as a release on the ZX Spectrum, a port for the MSX, and yes even a port for the Sega Megadrive and the C64 with stunning music by Gryzor87. Well we've not finished talking about the game just yet! As today we are pleased to announce the game is available to pre-order as a lovely big boxed edition for the Atari Falcon through Côté Gamers!

Creeping Me Out Hex Night - A charming Amiga platformer by Mixel gets a new WIP Demo!

If you love playing Platformers on the Amiga, then you might like this latest news update! As if you've been following all the developments regarding Mixel's upcoming Amiga platformer of 'Creeping Me Out : Hex Night. A Scorpion Engine created Action/Adventure/Platformer that doesn't just feature complex levels, but a story, enemies, big bosses and dangerous traps to keep you company. You'll be pleased to know that as of today the creator has released a new demo for you to try that's even better than the previous one!

SNK vs CAPCOM for the C64 looks super cool in this new footage! ( Demo Available! )

Once again there's another fighting game that's well worth a mention, as thanks to Jon Eggelton letting us know through our Indie Retro News Facebook group, we've been told that he and Gianluca Alberico is working on a new game for the C64 called 'SNK vs CAPCOM'; a game which is using their in development fighting engine known as RetroFighter. In light of this news update, not only is there some new footage for you to view, but a demo has made available for you to try on a C64!

Mazania - Mage Rage Part II - A brand new ZX Spectrum game from Joesoft, celebrating 40 years of the ZX Spectrum!

Even more retro goodness for you all even on a weekend! As we've recently been informed through one of the ZX Spectrum groups, that John Davies, Clive Townsend and Sebastian Braunert has released their new ZX Spectrum game of Mazania - Mage Rage Part II; A new Arcade game Celebrating 40 years of the ZX Spectrum which was written using the Remarkable AGDx Mini. To coincide with this news, you can download the game below, and Saberman will do a video very soon!

Rolling Thunder - A classic Arcade game gets a big speed improvement from McGeezer (Amiga)

McGeezer has been a name mentioned many times on Indie Retro News, as he has not only released some really amazing games such as the Arcade conversion of Rygar, the Arcade conversion of Turbo Sprint and Bomb Jack Beer Edition (link), but as from May or June he is also going to release the upcoming game of Devil's Temple : Son of the Kung-Fu Re-Master. Well here with another McGeezer news story, as thanks to Saberman contacting us today, he has told us McGeezer has released the hack/speed improved Amiga version of Rolling Thunder; a game originally released 1986/7 via the Arcades and home systems such as the Commodore 64, Amiga, Nintendo Entertainment System, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST and ZX Spectrum.

Stoker - Eagerly awaited C64 platformer by Rhys Clatworthy, gets new footage

Most of the time when it comes to C64 news we make sure to announce it as soon as possible being the first to get the news out into the world, much to the delight of the retro community. But this doesn't always happen! Welcome to one game that is still coming to the C64 that took us completely by surprise all those months ago, and that's ' Stoker '; an in development game by Rhys Clatworthy, that looks to feature some pretty impressive eye candy!

Monty Mole and The Lost Souls - Another recommended ZX Spectrum game from BubbleSoftGames appears on Itch io

We've featured a lot of BubbleSoftGames today, from Nixy the Glade Sprite, Nixy and the Seeds of Doom, to Ooze : The Escape, all as a re-release on itch io. Well here's another game that's worthy of a mention and well worth playing if you haven't previously, it's the 2017 game 'Monty Mole and The Lost Souls'; the sequel to Montys Honey Run which was also made using AGD. Basically a high quality fan based game in the Monty Mole series of games. The first game officially released in the 1980's by Gremlin Graphics.

Nixy the Glade Sprite - A great ZX Spectrum game ported over to the C64 gets a re-release

We haven't finished with the great news just yet, as trawling through the itch io website, we've also found out that BubbleSoft has re-released their amazing game of 'Nixy The Glade Sprite' for the C64; A game that was released some time ago, in which Scotty did a big review of the game, stating that it was highly addictive, very entertaining, and full of beautifully crafted visuals throughout. To coincide with this news, you can view some footage of the game by Saberman which was done last year.

Nixy and the Seeds of Doom - A high grade ZX Spectrum game gets a re-release on Itch io

In May of 2019 Florinthedwarf of Indie Retro News did a big review of the ZX Spectrum game Nixy and the Seeds of Doom, in which he said "It was a very fun and addictive game that casual and advanced players should try especially with its beautifully crafted visuals". So why is this game getting a mention yet again on IRN? Well if you didn't get the chance to play this game back then or the more recent C64 version (Nixy the Glade Sprite) which is also of high quality, you'll be pleased to know BUBBLESOFT has re-released the game on itch.

Ooze : The Escape - A fabulous ZX Spectrum game available via itch io!

From the same developer who brought you Monty's Honey Run and Monty Mole and the Lost Souls, Andy Johns has since announced that his previously released 2017 ZX Spectrum game of ' Ooze ', has now been made available through itch io. For those of you who don't remember this game, it is a high quality platformer that also features menu art and code by David Saphier, as well as menu music by Miguel/CPU and some in game music by Rayden/Vitali.

Sonic Origins - A brand new collection that brings you 4 fully remastered Sonic titles coming June 23rd!

Do we have some great retro gaming news for you, as that legendary game character Sonic from the Sonic the Hedgehog game series, which appeared on multiple systems such as  the the Sega Master System, Sega Megadrive and Sega Game Gear. Will be coming to the Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox One and PC as 'Sonic Origins'; a brand new collection that brings you 4 fully remastered titles: Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic CD, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and Sonic 3 & Knuckles arriving June 23rd, 2022 from SEGA. Turrican 2 as a work in progress MS-DOS to AMIGA AGA conversion gets another BIG update!

Another great Amiga update through Indie Retro News, as yet again Saberman was kind enough to contact us via Facebook, that Muzza has just released another update for the work in progress MS-DOS to Amiga conversion of the classic action shooter game Turrican II. The second game in the Turrican series, which was originally developed by Factor 5 in the 90's and released on the Amiga, C64, CDTV, Atari ST, Amstrad CPC and ZX Spectrum, and later for DOS.
