“Science as a Tool of Equality” is underway, the contest aimed at secondary school students in Palermo organized by the National Research Council (CNR), the Ri.MED Foundation, the National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF) and the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV).

The aim of the contest is to promote gender equality and raise awareness of the fundamental role of science in promoting inclusion and respect for diversity, as well as raising young people's awareness of equity and inclusion, while enhancing their skills, their creativity and the ability to go beyond stereotypes.

To participate, students will be able to submit videos, photographic projects, text works, games, comics or podcasts that tell how science can become a tool to overcome social, cultural and economic barriers and a vehicle for a more inclusive future.

In particular, the proposed themes on which to develop the various proposals are:

  • Science to promote gender diversity and inclusion
  • Science to combat discrimination, inequalities and gender violence
  • Science to celebrate women scientists of the past and present

Applications to participate in the contest can be sent until April 20, 2024. The winners will have the opportunity to visit the laboratories of the Palermo Research Institutes that promote the initiative.
