Sant'Eufemia A Maiella

Overview

Situated 878 m above sea level on the western slope of the mountain massif of the same name, Sant'Eufemia a Majella owes its name to the church, located in the Caramanico valley, which in September 1064 was donated to the monastery of S. Clemente a Casauria.

Originating as a pastoral cluster, the settlement was formed by the fusion of two different settlements: Villa Ricciardi and Villa S. Eufemia.

Strolling through the streets of Sant'Eufemia means experiencing an open-air artistic itinerary in which murals and other forms of painting, created by Trentino artist Liberio Furlini, enhance the environment, crafts and customs of the city and of the Maiella National Park.

Renowned for its cheese production and baking, Sant'Eufemia offers visitors a unique heritage: the mother church of San Bartolomeo, the Church of Madonna delle Grazie and the 'Daniela Brescia' botanical garden. Also, take time for a walk in the S. Eufemia grove, which is home to the so-called 'Fiabosco', a nature reserve for fantastic creatures in which the stories of Abruzzo tradition live on, rendered into sculptures by artists working with Maiella stone, wood and reclaimed materials.
