Roccabianca

Overview

Situated between the banks of the Po and the meanders of the River Taro, the small town of Roccabianca is set around the majestic bulk of the monumental 15th-century fortress, built by Pier Maria Rossi for his beloved Bianca Pellegrini.

An ancient Roman settlement, in the Middle Ages it was ceded by Frederick Barbarossa as a fief to the Pallavicino family.

A typical lowland castle, the Roccabianca fortress rises above the town with its mighty walls interspersed with towers from which the tall donjon rises from the central courtyard.

Created as a sign of love, the castle now houses the Distillery Museum in the old cellars, which offers an important insight into the history of liqueurs, brandies and balsamic vinegar, as well as the rooms where Culatello is aged.

A visit to the main floor allows visitors to admire the precious fresco and stucco decorations that adorn this splendid residence, set like a bulwark along the Culatello Trail.
