Lungolago di Lecco

Overview

A breath-taking route, among the lake and mountains

Who doesn’t want to enjoy a romantic stroll along the banks of one of Italy's most beautiful stretches of water? We’re talking about Lecco's lakeside promenade, also known as the “Lungolario Isonzo”, a path of several kilometres that winds alongside the city’s coastal area.

Along the walk, you can visit some of Lecco's most beautiful attractions. We recommend starting at the central Piazza Cermenati, where you can admire the lake or visit the Basilica of San Nicolò, the undisputed symbol of the city, with its 96-metre-high Gothic bell tower. Near the square you can find the War Memorial, where there is a play area for children.

Passing by the Imbarcadero, a former mooring for ferries, you can continue to Piazza Stoppani, home to the monument dedicated to geologist Antonio Stoppani and the statue of the patron saint San Nicolò. From here, you can enjoy extraordinary views of the lake and the surrounding Alps, a true spectacle, especially in the warm light of sunset. We recommend stopping to take a photo at the Sunflower, an Art Nouveau patio decorated with cast-iron sunflowers.

If walking is your thing, you can hike south towards Ponte Alessandro Manzoni to reach Pescarenico. This old fishing neighbourhood, mentioned in The Betrothed, will enchant you with its colourful houses that reflect in the water.
