San Candido: ski resort par excellence

La Three Zinnen Dolomite Region is a paradise for ski lovers. Although it is South Tyrol's least congested and least frequented ski area, it enthuses its visitors. Here, in fact, you are spoilt for choice between the 115 kilometres of downhill slopes and the 200 kilometres of cross-country skiing trails.

If you are visiting this area with your family or friends, you can opt for the “Tour of the Peaks” ski tour, which offers breathtaking views, passing through the enchanting scenery and unspoilt nature of five areas: Monte Elmo, Croda Rossa, Passo Monte Croce, the Val Comelico Ski Area and Monte Baranci.

In the realm of the latter, called the “sleeping giant”, you can delight in giant snowmen, toboggan rides and encounters with herds of reindeer. The illuminated slope for night skiing is very impressive.

The more daring, on the other hand, can launch themselves on the “Holzriese”, the steepest slope in South Tyrol, with a gradient reaching 72%.

But there are routes for every level of difficulty with a balanced mix of blue, red and black tracks. They will also be easy to reach, thanks to the 31 modern ski lifts.

Without ever taking your boots off your feet, you can move quickly from one area to another in total comfort thanks to the “Ski Pustertal Express”.

The new railway station of Versciaco, then, connects in just 30 minutes the two Valpuster ski areas of Three Peaks Dolomites and Plan de Corones giving skiers another 200 kilometres of slopes.

Everything is accompanied by authentic cuisine, of South Tyrolean game, homemade delicacies such as Kaiserschmarren, a kind of omelette with blueberries, dishes of fresh pasta, primarily gnocchi and ravioli, cheeses, speck and hard rye bread.
