Corciano

Overview

Amidst deep green woods and areas cultivated with patience and love, we can already glimpse in the distance a slight rise on which Corciano rises. As we get closer, the town's medieval past becomes more and more evident: the historic centre is enclosed by powerful defensive walls the village recounts past centuries with its alleys, stairways, towers and gardens, everything here recalls the atmosphere in which ladies and knights spent their lives. In this setting, worth seeing are the tower of Porta Santa Maria, the Coragino square with its 16th-century well, the Palazzo Municipale, the Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo and the Palazzo dei Priori, the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, which houses Perugino's painting of the Assumption and Benedetto Bonfigli's Gonfalone painted in 1472, and finally the museum church of San Francesco, in Gothic style. The past speaks to us, in Corciano. The magic lies in knowing how to listen.
