Enveloped by Chianti vineyards, olive groves and verdant rolling hills, Torre A Cona Wine Estate is a disarmingly enchanting retreat in the countryside made up of an 18th-century villa (more akin to a castle) and collection of farmhouses.
This is the perfect base for exploring all Tuscany has to offer with the quaint village of San Donato just five minutes by car and the Renaissance magnificence of Florence reached in 30. The estate itself dates back to the 11th century and subsequent owners include the noble Rinuccini family, Trivulzio counts and now the Rossi di Montelera counts who bought the estate in 1935.
Today, the younger members of the family have shone a spotlight on the estate’s carefully procured wines to offer three types of wine experiences: the Complete Wine Tasting experience with a tour of the estate, the cellars and Vinsantaia, followed by wine, extra virgin olive oil and local cheese tastings; the Cellar Tour with Wine Pairing Lunch featuring three courses from a set menu; and the Cellar Tour with Wine Pairing Dinner complete with four courses from a set menu. All include samples of Torre A Cona’s finest Sangiovese, Merlot and Vinsanto wines, which are also available in Osteria Torre a Cona where traditional, seasonal Tuscan dishes for lunch and dinner are served.
If the weather permits during the summer months, you can dine outside amidst the holm oak trees. Out here, there’s also a pool open from May to September facing the spectacular Tuscan views; views that are visible from the elegantly decorated rooms situated within the west wing of the villa. For longer stays, families or groups of friends, farmhouses such as the eight-bedroom Casa Villa are ideal in every refined Italian way.
