Built in 1571 for over three centuries it housed the seat of the Grand Master of the Knights of San Giovanni. It is currently the seat of the Parliament of Malta and the residence of the President of the Republic, part of its rooms are open to the public. The first floor houses various rooms including the Council Chamber, rich in tapestries, and the Supreme Council Hall, which houses frescoes describing the great siege of Malta by the Turks in 1565. The upper floor houses the Armory, with over 5.000 weapons from 1500 to 1700 and the original armor of Grand Master Jean de la Valette, founder of Valletta.
